NOTES
Get your SPG picks in for a chance to win a Penguins wall clock courtesy of Carrolls Cove.
Rangers beat Columbus last night. Nothing much to brag about there. They basically started the season off hot and as of the past week or so turned back into the Rangers we know and love.
Lundqvist got the start last night, but I wouldn't doubt his back-to-back start tonight. Valiquette is a highly capable backup though. Given Henrik's record against the Pens I'd rather Valiquette sits.
Matt Cooke is back.
Hal Gill is out.

Rangers putting on a lot of pressure already

No PP-goal, but I’ll take it.

Other than the goal – that was a pretty bad power play.

I agree. And technically it was still a bad power play. He just got out of the box when he scored.

PS
New book :
The Code; the unwritten rules of fighting and retaliation in the NHL.
Really shines a more understanding light on hockey fights. I’m only three chapters in, but it’s a very interesting read. Almost reads as if you’re sitting at a bar with the author and he’s telling you all about fighting.

Sounds good. I’ll add it to my list – which is just getting longer and longer, and nothing’s getting read. (Well, a lot is getting read, but mainly school-related stuff. )

bah. Reading in school is overrated. I never read anything for school and still graduated with a 3.5.

er, 3.5 out of 4.0. I think you guys do it different up in the Great White North.

That’s what the abstract, introduction and conclusion are for.
There’s no standard up here – we have an 10pt scale here, all the school I’m applying for grad school at use a 4pt scale and I know a school that has a 4.5pt scale. I had to google how to calculate my gpa on 4 for the applications I’m working on. (I’ll just cross my fingers its right)

My extremely proficient use of plurals and grammatical rules in that comment should really prove how equipped I am to continue on at higher education.

MSG is really on the “the Staal’s are brothers” theme tonight.

It was the same way with the Canes game the other night. Recycled information makes me nauseous.

I only saw one period of that one – so it wasn’t too bad around here.

hopefully it was the third period.

The Pens, more specifically Malkin and Crosby, have to realize the days of charging down the middle are gradually coming to an end.

Yeah. I think Crosby has always had a little more success with it than Malkin, but regardless, it’s starting to cause some major turnovers. Still, watching Crosby charge down the middle and spin around 4 defensemen looks so good on a highlight reel.

I agree. That was just a good display of keeping it in the zone and getting it toward the net. Good things happen that way.
by Dayna on Oct 25, 2008 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I just find it amazing how someone like Sid can crash the net without being obstructed. No one touched him and he could just slip in and find that puck. The D-man has to push Sid out of the crease.

And you know what? I also don’t get what Therrien has against Sydor. He scored the first goal and looks solid on D. He even just poked away that drive into the Pens’ zone.

He does look good – but I read somewhere that things haven’t been good between them since the whole Mark Recchi thing last year (which Roberts and Orpik and others didn’t like either). Plus, the fact that he’s now basically trade bait – he wants to move and the Pens are just holding on to him and waiting, scratching him a lot. It seems like a waste to me – because he’s a solid defenseman.

“All that talk about Crosby working the officials? Well, he’s still working them.” Paul Steigerwald

I don’t even get what that’s supposed to be saying. Is that a compliment or an insult?
by Dayna on Oct 25, 2008 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I naturally take it as an insult. They have some of the most biased broadcasters in the game.

I want to see Jordan Staal score a goal – but I get the sentiment. Just hold on to the lead. Don’t blow it in the third.

Classy. Even Pittsburgh commercials don’t say “hated Flyers.” At least the ones I’ve seen…
