NOTES

Get your SPG picks in for a chance to win a Penguins wall clock courtesy of Carrolls Cove.

Thankfully Sidney Crosby is playing, but the rest of the roster is also taking a hit.

Pascal Dupuis was moved to the Injured Reserve list.  Looks like that puck that hit him in practice must have been pretty bad.  Hopefully he'll avoid them next time around.

In his place, Janne Pesonen got the call up and will share a line with Petr Sykora and Evgeni Malkin.  This should be exciting to watch.  Not that it matters much - Therrien will juggle the lines anyway.

Just when you thought injuries wouldn't stop, Ruslan Fedotenko skated off the ice during the morning skate with an undisclosed injury.  He won't dress for tonight's game.

Hal Gillis back in the lineup and Mark Eaton will be a healthy scratch.

Max Talbot will most likely remain a scratch as well, as no word was released on him.

Marc-Andre Fleury is in net for the Pens

All right, let’s get this ball rolling. Need to start this month off with a win to give the team a spark heading into November.

Hah, the game started off with the Alexander Semin quote that I tossed up earlier today.

Damn, Koci is a scratch for the Blues. Was really hoping to see that fight. Guess Jannssen will have to do.

Up 4-2…and now, the dreaded third period.

Did I miss anything interesting? (I see we’re winning, maybe I should stay away – for luck.)

by Dayna on Nov 1, 2008 10:23 PM EDT reply actions

Well it was a slow first period, ended 2-1 Blues. Then Goligoski got one, Malkin got one and TK got one to make it 4-2 after the second.

Oh and you’ve also missed some slashing calls. Letang got nailed with a tomahawk – No call, and Scuderi also got hit with one, no call as well. The Blues are playing pretty dirty out there.

Thanks for the rundown. Does Sid look injured? Is he even still playing?

Also – I’m sad I missed a TK goal. Boo.

by Dayna on Nov 1, 2008 10:29 PM EDT reply actions

Nah he doesn’t look like he’s in bad shape but let’s just say the blues are making sure they finish their checks on him. He’s out there and has two assists tonight.

I love bench penalties.

yeah but the Pens are pretty good at getting them too…

True, but I still love them. Esp. when Steve Downie serves them for Philadelphia. It’s a niche role for him.

haha that bum is back in the minors and causing a ruckus down there

I’m watching the choppiest feed of this game ever – its like they’re playing under a strobe light.

oh man, that sucks. ChannelSurfing site?

Yeah – but I tried another one too and it was just as bed. Just not a good night for the web, I guess. I’ve had good feeds from there before.

oh no – here we go. Don’t call this a comeback.

And here I was thinking Talbot was a scratch tonight. Good to see him back in the lineup and fired up ready to go.

I have to tell you though, sadly, Marc Staal is really my favourite Staal brother. A sad, un-Pens-fan like admission.

Jordan Staal! Finalement!

Just promise you’ll never say “finito.” That’s reserved for guys with comb-overs and/or toupees.

by FrankD on Nov 1, 2008 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Fair enough. Fini is more concise anyways (not that being concise has ever been one of my strengths).

by Dayna on Nov 1, 2008 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions

But that’s so Indie Film. Fade to black, fini…

Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com

by FrankD on Nov 1, 2008 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes well, indie film would probably go over well on some parts of this campus. I could make some new friends, I just can’t tell them how many times I saw Batman this summer…

by Dayna on Nov 1, 2008 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Really? It’s one of those campuses?

Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com

by FrankD on Nov 1, 2008 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, you know, there’s a few on every campus.

by Dayna on Nov 1, 2008 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought that was just reserved for art schools. I had a few people dressed all in black on my campus, so I’d imagine those are the “few” you reference.

Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com

by FrankD on Nov 1, 2008 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions

You only had a few? I had two people who wore capes year round, even in -30C, in a class of 20. They were both very nice – although I have to imagine very cold.

(Do we even have art schools in Canada? That is a serious query… I think we just squish everyone onto the same campus.)

by Dayna on Nov 1, 2008 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Alright, I’m off to change all of my clocks. Yay, daylight savings time. Have a good night.

Would you two stop flirting and get to the real point! Batman, really??? Batman was/is lame, lets talk real, What are the capabilities of Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Dupius (as soon as he has recovered) Flower, Orpik, Letang, Talbot… Tis’ a good year for the pens! Check out Justintv.com for tonnes of links to quality streaming games, no I do not work for them, am simply peasant vision tv chick who manages to find everything she needs for free via internet, oh and huge fan of great, all around, and talented Canadian players. ; )

by AngelaMc on Nov 2, 2008 12:08 AM EDT reply actions

Ah I wouldn’t imagine you work for them – I’m pretty familiar with that site as well. ChannelSurfing.net has decent ones from time to time, but it’s kinda hit or miss.

Hey Angela – thanks for the tip! The channelsurfing.net feed was from Justintv last night – but it was lagging and choppy. I ended up switching to radio for the last part of the game. I agree though, there are often great feeds from there (I usually find them through the forums on myp2p.com).

by Dayna on Nov 2, 2008 8:27 AM EST up reply actions

Is there anyway you can get games on nhl.com’s gamecentre without having to pay the 30$ a month? I used to have subscription and it was pretty good, occasionally video and audio wouldn’t sync, but it could have been my sad computer. I have found games on my2p2 and downloaded the sopcast thing but it was making my computer unhappy so I haven’t used it since.

by AngelaMc on Nov 2, 2008 12:11 PM EST reply actions

NHL.com actually plans to have a few free games this year in efforts to promote year round. I don’t know which ones though, and technically they’re just going to keep it low key until the night or two before. I guess just keep your eyes open for those.

As Dayna said, ChannelSurfing does normally pull from JustinTV, so I guess either of those work well. Other than that I really don’t know – they’re definitely the two big ones.

by FrankD on Nov 2, 2008 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

Sopcast made my computer unhappy too – I wouldn’t use it if I were you. I would just keep your eyes open in the myp2p forums, there is often more than one feed going of any given game. Looking for ones from justintv that have the chat turned off, or to slow is also good – it usually lets the game stream better. At the end of the day though, sometimes there just isn’t a good feed, which sucks, but sometimes c’est la vie.

by Dayna on Nov 2, 2008 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks for the input, I do have trouble deciphering which streams are simply just bad streams to my computer just being my ‘free computer’ (it really was free from Telus, sign 3 year internet, we send you free computer with keyboard, mouse, screen and everything, k ’nuff ’bout how much I like Telus) and not having super powers like I wish it did. Sorry, newbie here just discovered streaming things…sports, movies, tv shows…ok I have been living in a box, I still watch VHS, geez.
