Sidney Crosby injury update II - Sid will play

Thanks to SteelCityKid for passing on the info:

Sid skated this morning with the team and has been named a starter on the Penguins' web site.  Whether this will stick or not is still uncertain, but I have a feeling that Janne Pesonen is waiting close by in the event that Sid will be unable to play before game time.  I also think not guaranteeing his spot in the lineup is just a formality, and we can now expect him out there since he participated in the morning skate.

The Pens' site says:

Crosby was listed as day-to-day but skated in the team's morning skate on Saturday morning and will suit up against the Blues.

My concern here: pushing him to play if he is in fact injured.  I'm not looking to see him blanked from the roster longer than he has to be due to the fact that he is stubbornly ignoring an injury.  In the event it wasn't all that serious to begin with, than kudos to Sid was sticking it out.

Plenty more to come today as we edge closer to the 8:30 pm game time.

I am hoping with or without {preferably with} Sid to night, I still hope Janne plays. I just can’t wait to see the guy play.

And yes pushing the injury is never good. If I recall, last year he tried to come back early from the dreaded high ankle sprain, and he missed a few games after the attempt.

Exactly. That’s my concern. Sometimes I think his interest in competition outweighs rational thought. Can’t knock the guy for it, but you just want him to really understand the impact it can have on the team if he’s out longer. Then what?

I think he learned his lesson with the ankle. It’s October, not April, I don’t think he’s going to push through too many injuries and risk being out at a more crucial time. If the ribs were in fact the problem, it may have subsided pretty quickly. Jordan Staal left a game with bruised ribs last season and returned two days later without missing a game, a little sore but able to play (and hit the post a few times, I’m sure).

Haha that comment got a laugh out of me. I was actually thinking of Staal for that same reason. I don’t know if it was ribs or not, but I guess in terms of injury history I’d rather it be that than the ankle again. Or perhaps even in a worse situation the other ankle.
