Did anyone else wonder why Alexei Kovalev had more votes than Crosby and Ovechkin combined? PuckDaddy found this link that says it all. How pathetic...

Nice. Stay classy, Habs fans. Wonder how the NHL will handle this one? They gonna pick which Hab is a “legitimate” all-star and refuse the others?

Something like this seemed inevitable once the NHL threw it open to “vote early, vote often.” I’ve never really been comfortable with the method of All-Star game selection ever since it went away from paper ballots in fans’ hands at actual games — at least then you knew the constituency.

I’d just as soon have the teams picked by player vote, or have it be stat-based after a certain date, or pick a panel of GMs, coaches, players … and FANS to select the teams.

I used to love those paper ballots where you punch out the holes. Sigh. Memories.

I think they should banish every Canadien from playing in the All-Star game and move it to Toronto as punishment for being a collective group of tools. But that’s just my thought.

Ha! That would not be bad. The NHL could turn the tables and start messing with fans: “Due to an unforeseen computer glitch, some "vote team” votes for Canadiens players may have been recorded for Maple Leafs players. As there is no way to recall these votes or sort through intent, Vesa Toskala and Tomas Kaberle are hereby declared starters."

Paper ballots ruled. I loved sitting at the game, ballot in hand between periods, debating with my father over my vote.

I’m sure Pension Plan Puppets would be happy with the shared love for the Leafs.

Funny, I have a similar memory with my pops. I know every year I got a vote for myself too because I couldn’t resist writing myself in. What kid could?

Ha, that’s great. I confess writing in. I would’ve made the team, too, if it weren’t for that darn Rendez Vous ’87.

The only leader on the leader board that makes sense and seems legit is Luongo. Why have I never once seen one of these ballots? I’ve never voted before, how is this possible? Where did you guys get your paper ballots in the past?

They used to have them in holders at the games. I also remember in some instances staff at the arena handing them out before the game.

Wow, I feel old.

Yeah, in St. Louis ushers used to pass them out to us near the end of a period, collect them early in the next one. It was great source for intermission chatter. That was how we learned who was on a ballot: We were at a game, and they handed the thing to us. I remember the holders you speak of, too, out in the concourse.

I wonder how often the chart is updated or refreshed because I have voted 5 times and my votes aren’t showing in the totals.

by AngelaMc on Nov 13, 2008 12:26 PM EST reply actions

They may have frozen the votes because of this Canadiens incident…

Just read the thing! So it is true what us Albertans think of the Quebecois, We make most of the money for the country so they can sit at home, no job, collect their EI and vote a trillion times a day while eating a sandwhich (love Eddie Izzard).

Haven’t seen it, I shall watch it today. Do you actually think the voting people, whoever they are, are looking into CDN’s thing. I didn’t fully understand what it was, like a program that just keeps repeating your vote for you?

by AngelaMc on Nov 13, 2008 12:52 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, someone installed a plug in that allows for the votes to keep registering without any effort at all from the individual. It’s cheating in the purist sense.

I’d hope the NHL will at least adjust their voting process or mandate some sort of rule that will disallow it. No Canadiens player deserves to be at the top of the list. Even James Mirtle at From The Rink said that votes were coming it at nearly one per second. So lame.

Well I give whomever came up with ‘clever little auto vote’ points for being a computer geek, but come on why didn’t we hire them first ; ) How does it all weigh out in the actual selection? Like 50% fan based and 50% coaches etc.’s selections?

by AngelaMc on Nov 13, 2008 1:00 PM EST reply actions

Not so sure how it works. I know that they like to brag about the fans’ selection during the games, like how Sid was the most popular last season even though he wasn’t able to play. But aside from the popular vote I don’t know how the electorals work.

Dammit, I haven’t been granted ‘permission’ yet to post. It was the gun show that scared them, they saw me coming. I shall wait patiently while practicing manoeuvres with my forked tongue.

Don’t tell me they actually have to approve membership. That would just be super lame. I hate those sites that give a 24-hour grace period. It’s like you’re trying to buy a gun or something.

Actually...

Just by running this manuevere, the Habs are already guarenteed spots in the starting line-up. Sid & possible Malkin may break in but about 100,000 votes make it tough to break the line-up statistically.
