HURRICANES BLOGS: CANES COUNTRY

NOTES

Get your SPG picks in for a chance to win a Penguins wall clock courtesy of Carrolls Cove.

Bob from Canes Country has mentioned Michael Leighton (whom the Pens posted a four-goal rally on back on Oct 23) will be in net tonight.

John Curry between the pipes for Pitt. [EDIT: Surprise, Sabourin again]

This is also the Hurricanes' first game with new head coach Paul Maurice, formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Tyler Kennedy is out following an undisclosed injury that sent him packing early last night against the Rangers.

Michael Zigomanis is probably.

Janne Pesonen and Chris Minard called up.

Surprised to see Sabourin in back-to-back games. Guess Therrien wants him to get one back.

Such a cheapshot. Nice to see Crosby doing a little enforcing. Just wait for Goddard…

Crosby has been getting a little agitated lately. Orr got the best of him last night too

But he did just enough. Rutuu didn’t seem to get into his head, and he didn’t take a penalty.

by TrueBluePSU on Dec 4, 2008 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

True. But I really want to see an enforcer/agitator on the Pens getting their hands dirty and opening up the ice for the scorers. That was the problem last night against the Rangers.

That was a beautiful goal by Sykora

Look at that smile on Dupuis’ face!

Must feel good after being benched for a game. I guess MT was just looking to get the fire going again

Gotta say I’m happy with that first period

Am I remembering correctly that Sykora has quite a few 2 goal games but never a hat trick?

by Dayna on Dec 4, 2008 8:07 PM EST reply actions

indeed. Was just telling my friend that exact thing

Of course, that’s how we roll here

Three point night for Sid so far. This could be a night where we see a new season high.

Things to look forward to...

So I believe the most points Sid has ever had in a game was six. His season high going into this game is four, which he also has right now (1G, 3A).

Sykora has never had a hat trick and he has two goals already.

I think his stick is probably taller than I am. But I agree – he’s really been playing well. It was a little scary last night when it looked like he might be out along with TK and Zigomanis.

by Dayna on Dec 4, 2008 8:28 PM EST up reply actions

He’s three inches taller than me. I can take ’em though…

Nope. Not once. Not at all.

That’s right. Keep a three goal lead. It eases the tension of a collapse.

yeah, can take WC breaks when needed.

by AngelaMc on Dec 4, 2008 8:39 PM EST up reply actions

They better not go into defensive mode. I want Sykora to get the hatty, preferably on a pass from Sid. Then I want Sid to top six points.

Am I asking for too much?

All I want is for the Hurricanes to not score three unanswered goals in the third. But I could settle for your plan too.

by Dayna on Dec 4, 2008 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

NHL.com credited Satan with the goal. I wonder if that’s the official call.

Big game for Sabu! He’s looked really good since MAF has been out. (I’ve decided to stop talking about him when he’s actually playing because everytime I do he seems to give up a goal.)
