Penguins vs Sabres Open Thread

Pittsburgh Penguins (32-21-5) vs Buffalo Sabres (28-22-8)
In Buffalo at 6pm
Watch on FSN/Center Ice or listen live at WXDX.com.

Sid skated in a full contact practice yesterday for the first time since the crash into the boards.  Since the injury his projected return was set for March 15.  I'm no doctor, but considering his degree of recovery I'd say fans can expect him back sooner rather than later.

Gary Roberts has also been taking to the ice on a regular basis now since the broken leg.

Marc-Andre Fleury may only have another game or two awaiting him in WBS before returning to Pitt full-time.  His rehab record is 1-1

In the Carolina game, Jeff Taffe suffered a broken nose and in turn may be absent in the lineup tonight.  Kris Beech, the ghost on the ice since his recent re-acquisition, also broke his wrist in the 4-2 loss to the Canes.

Erik Christensen will also be a scratch tonight as he continues to recover from the minor shoulder injury sustained in the 2-1 loss against the Bruins.

It's amazing what a week can do to a team.

Notes
Buffalo fell to the Rangers 5-1 last night.
Miller was pulled in the first after giving up 4 goals on 11 shots.
The first goal came 10 seconds into the first.
Can the Pens expect to see Thibault in net?
The Penguins lead the season series 2-0.
Up until yesterday's loss the Sabres were on a hot 8-0-2 run.

they're

not playing bad. Buffalo has just had some scoring chances quickly.

they're not

playing well in their own end at all.  They have to clear this puck out.  Unbelievable.

There's going to be some fights soon.

they're lookin so bad

right now.  It's bad enough Buff was dominating even strength.  now the Pens are going to give them a PP.

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 6:13 PM EST reply actions

Penguins

don't have a single shot yet.  Conklin already has 10 saves

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 6:19 PM EST reply actions

yeah

i guess 9 shots in the 1st 5 mins is garbage.

by kellyfisher on Feb 17, 2008 6:19 PM EST reply actions

these guys

are hitting like crazy tonight.  The boards are rattling all over the place,

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 6:27 PM EST reply actions

this

is just ridiculous

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 6:31 PM EST reply actions

The Pens

had a 4 on 1, a 3 on 1 and couldn't capitalize on either attempt.  This hurts.

Missed opportunity

How in the heck did they not score on that opportunity.  I thought for sure the Sabres were going to be losing 1-0 despite controlling the first period of action.

That was beautiful!!!!

by kellyfisher on Feb 17, 2008 7:18 PM EST reply actions

woot

That was a garbage-ish lookin goal, but a goal either way.  We'll take it.

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 7:18 PM EST reply actions

That's

what they mean when they say "Hopefully a few bounces go our way."

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 7:18 PM EST reply actions

its about time

they're usually giving up garbage goals like that. I'll take it!

Way to go Armstrong

you worthless piece of crap.

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 7:30 PM EST reply actions

yeah

that was niiiice! He doesn't shoot much in SO for the Pens, does he?

by kellyfisher on Feb 17, 2008 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

sometimes

I think his place in the shootout lineup has been replaced by Letang.  Ruutu is still a solid guy to have later in the shootout, like 4th or 5th.

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 7:49 PM EST up reply actions

WOW

that is all you can say about that traffic in front of Miller

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 8:00 PM EST reply actions

chalk it up

A much needed win.  Rumor has it Sid could be back as early as Tuesday, with Roberts coming within the next 2 weeks.  Things are going to get very intense very soon.

by FrankD on Feb 17, 2008 8:29 PM EST reply actions

no

chit? I've been patiently waiting for Gary to come back. All tied up....again!
