Penguins vs Islanders Open Thread

Pittsburgh Penguins (35-21-7) vs New York Islanders (30-26-7)
At Long Island at 7:00 PM
Watch on FSN/Center Ice or listen at WXDX.com
NOTES
Now that the drama of the trade deadline is behind them, the Penguins can get moving on towards their playoff run and Division and/or Conference title.
Gary Roberts is done - torn ligaments will end the season for him. Some reports are even saying "well into next year" as far as rehabilitation goes, but I think it's safe to say this is it for Roberts. Having been forced into retirement from injuries once before, Scary Gary may have to hang them up for good now. Huge loss for the Pens.
The Pens recalled Connor James and Nathan Smith (again) on an emergency basis for the Colby/Christensen ship-off.
Which reminds me - in case you missed it, the Penguins traded Erik Christensen, Colby Armstrong, Angelo Esposito and the number one pick to Atlanta for Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis.
The Pens also grabbed Hal Gill, a defenseman from the Maple Leafs for a draft pick.
Islanders are on a six-game winning streak.
Pens are 3-0-2 in their last five.
Something's got to give...
On a side note, and completely unrelated to any aspect of this story, Wayne Gretzky is one of the most unanimated speakers ever. Sorry, I was watching a bio on him on the NHLN.

haha
I know, can you believe the Hoss move? So many people are shooting it down, but I don't care - I think it's a great move.
what?
people are shooting it down?? dumb! Im kinda sad to see colby go but whatever. I wanted them to get Hossa! Hal Gill should be a nice addition too. 6'7'' 250??

Yeah
People are saying it was stupid for a guy the Pens will most likely have to give up again as an unrestricted free agent. but whatever - if this gets the cup, then so be it.
Colby was just a all around buddy with Pitt. If he scored a bit more and didn't take stupid penalties it may have been harder to fathom.
I seriously think the only detrimental move was giving away the draft pick.
HOSSA!
greetings from Manhattan....
WE GOT HOSSA!
Love it, cause Shero going for it. Sure beats the times when CP announced during preseason that the team would be in "Survival" mode, and begged us to give guys like Kraft and Fata a chance.
Colby is an above average plugger. Tyler Kennedy can do what he does for less money. Christensen will never get a chance to truly show what he can do behind Crosby Malkin and Staal, and he hasn't been able to truly make the switch to wing. I've got friends whose son played for two years with Esposito in Quebec, and they've said his best season was because he played alongside Radulov. As long as Hossa is healthy, it is worth the risk.
yeah
I'm really looking forward to how he does. I'm feeling a lot better for the rest of the season now.
Yes
On Hossa. I'm assuming the same goes for Dupuis and Gill, but the media is just raging over simply covering Hossa at this point. But if i had to guess, I'd say expect all three in the lineup against Boston on Thursday and maybe even Fleury in net.
Manhattan huh? On biznass?
I agree with you 100% killer. Players like Colby are a dime a dozen. The only detrimental factor lies in the area of team morale. Apparently Colby was a huge factor to the team's morale boost, and that was obvious with many of his locker room jokes and pranks on Sid. but like you said, the fact is Shero said "Sorry, you're a good guy and all but we need to win."
Too many Pens fans are getting down and out over this trade. I say, nice move Shero.
wow
2 goals on 7 shots...to 28 for the isles.

That
was a hell of a hit. Definitely bullied. Gill has like 4 inches and at least 50 lbs on Colby. Welcome to the Pens Hal! :)

Tuomo
got an assist in his first game with the Canes.
Now I'm hearing Scuderi broke some fingers on a blocked shot in the first.
love
him. He's not big but loves to get into fights.

nice win
Conk was absolutely unreal with 50 saves. Big win over a division rival and nice way to kill their streak. Thursday night Gill+Dupuis+Hossa - get ready for hockey.
