NOTES
Big division game tonight - a chance for the Pens to keep moving up and stifle the Rangers' attempts at rising through the standings.  Eklund from hockeybuzz.com predicted the Rangers will make it to the finals to play against the Sharks.  It could happen...

But then again it couldn't.  I'd rather bank more money on that NOT happening.

Hossa and Malkin need to come up big, and you all know Malone and Sykora are coming out ready to play.   Conklin is getting the nod over Fleury tonight, most likely in efforts to keep him warmed up for the playoff run.

I don't normally predict scores but I'll do it here.  4-2 Penguins.

I think
there are more former Penguins and Rangers in this game than there are current ones...

stick save Conklin - unbelievable

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 7:16 PM EDT reply actions

damn

i saw that coming - choreographed perfectly.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 7:24 PM EDT reply actions

:(

Our boys better pull it together if they want that top seed.

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

hi there.

so that prediction is pretty much shot to shit, eh?

by Christine @ PensBurgh on Mar 18, 2008 7:41 PM EDT reply actions

not

just yet...they could score 4 unanswered.

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

i won't deny that it's possible

but i don't think it'll happen tonight.

by Christine @ PensBurgh on Mar 18, 2008 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

It's happened

Might i remind you of the Montreal 6-5 SO win?  Weren't the Rangers up 5-1 at one point?

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah Frank

I remember that. Rangers are definitely capable of effing up this 2 goal lead for sure!

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

me neither

they need to get it together.  Also, side note.  Did you see Marc Staal block that Malkin shot.  I love that kid, even if he does play for the Rangers.

by Dayna on Mar 18, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

it was

a phenomenal play - I'll give him that.  But he should just stay out of the way

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

like i said, it's POSSIBLE

but not very probable.

by Christine @ PensBurgh on Mar 18, 2008 7:51 PM EDT reply actions

we shall see

by the way, this may make your viewing on the site a bit easier.

Even if you ARE a Rangers fan...

LETS GO PENS!!

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

Finally

a point for Jordan Staal.  He's been working so hard out there this season.  Have I mentioned that I love the Staal brothers?  Maybe once or twice eh?

by Dayna on Mar 18, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

yes

You love the Staals and Kelly loves Malone.  And I admire Letang's locks - what can I say?

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions

here we gooo........

Love Ruutu.  And "The Move"
And love Staal's stick-to-it-ness

by killer93 on Mar 18, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

Gimme a break

Lundqvidst tried to sell that one - he wasn't hit that hard.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:15 PM EDT reply actions

Can goalies...

get called for a dive?  That was the closest I've ever seen to one...

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

How can

a play get called as both a penalty and a dive (so 2 players get 2 mins)?  I saw it happen the other day and I don't understand, isn't it either a penalty or a dive?

by Dayna on Mar 18, 2008 8:18 PM EDT up reply actions

i think

it's because it would've been a penalty either way but the player chose to try and sell it by taking a dive.  In other words, if he would've just stood their it'd be a power play.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Hey Killer...

you catch Avery talking to Minard before?  I could've swarn he said "Who the hell are you again?"

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:18 PM EDT reply actions

no goal!!!

thank u brooks orpik!!!

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 8:20 PM EDT reply actions

Whitney

What the hell.  Another shaky night.
How about trading his ass so we can afford everyone else

by killer93 on Mar 18, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

Sell Whitney -

to keep Hossa?  I guess it might be a possibility - maybe even up Goglioski from the farm for a cheaper and more adept D-man.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Promo opportunity for squash

The longer Connor James stays on the big club, somebody should sponsor every time he gets crunched.  Like the subway sandwich of the game

by killer93 on Mar 18, 2008 8:30 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe in the Euro leagues

but the NHLPA would never allow that.  haha

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

ALright - let's do an over/under

over/under on third period fights - 3?  Over or under?

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:38 PM EDT reply actions

i

may have to say over...ruutu is pissed. i wont be surprised if there is a fight off the face-off!!

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

as long as

Avery is on the ice I'd say you're good to go with that prediction.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

good pace to the game

lots of good skating, lots of ill intent

by killer93 on Mar 18, 2008 8:39 PM EDT reply actions

it's gonna

get really crazy from hereon-in

2nd Intermission Entertainment

Sorry bout skimpin in the first - my internet is going in and out on me.

He'll be back soon...

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

in the words of another crazed roberts fan.......

WWGRD??? Cant wait to have him back!

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

might be back within the next 5-6 games

just in time to crush faces in the playoffs.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Delayed 1st intermission Entertainment

To Ruutu giving someone hell this period!

by kellyfisher on Mar 18, 2008 8:56 PM EDT reply actions

booyah

he better drop em soon

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 8:56 PM EDT reply actions

Avery

has the most assinine goal celebration ever.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

Sydor

skates like he has a flat tire.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

whitney and sydor

should just sit.  Bad night for both.

by killer93 on Mar 18, 2008 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

I think Whitney

has been on ice for all 5 Rangers goals.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

ugh

yeah - Whitney is a minus-5 on the day.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

NYR feed

said they've been on for four of the five.  Could there be a Goligoski or gulp...Nasreddine sighting soon?

by killer93 on Mar 18, 2008 9:18 PM EDT reply actions

if Nas can do it

than go for it.  But I'd rather see Go-go than Nas if I had to choose.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

i do however

like your idea of opening up some $$$ with a potential Whitney move.  That could keep Hossa around - but you'd definitely have to make sure whoever the Pens promote fro the farm (or take from elsewhere) can handle the position.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

This is the point

in a game where watching just becomes unbearable.

by FrankD on Mar 18, 2008 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

deepest position in the system right now

is probably on the blueline.  Strait, Sneep, Goligoski will be be ready soon.  We can probably afford to get some young prospect and free up some salary by trading Whitney.

by killer93 on Mar 18, 2008 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

I'll consider posting that up

on an off-night this week.  See what others have to say.
