NOTES
I know I've been AWOL for the last few open threads - I'll be here for this one. If you haven't already made a username feel free to do so here. It takes two seconds to do and may put you in the running for some 2008 playoff posters and other goodies. The offer is open to Flyers fans too - although all I ask is that you keep it clean in the comment section. Other than that, feel free to dish it out.

Here we are, Game 1. How long has it been since the last game? I have to say, it's been pretty nice seeing the Pens still playing while other teams send players off to the IIHF competition. Perhaps it's for the better in more ways than one. After all, the Lightning's center Jeff Halpern has a rough summer ahead of him after tearing his ACL. Makes you grateful to have your team still together in the NHL huh? I know I'd be beyond words if we dropped a guy during offseason play.

Still keeping an eye open for scratches, but with a 7:30 start I presume we won't be seeing them till around 7 or so. In either case, Timmonen is out this series for the Flyers, perhaps even up to three months now. Eklund at hockeybuzz claims he could be back for the end of the series, but this is speculation coming from a guy who predicted the Penguins were not in the running for Hossa. Oh, and he's a Flyers fan (employee) too.

Shrink this down, print it out and staple it to your forehead - here is your playoff TV schedule on Versus.

With that said - well, there's nothing else to say till the puck drops.

Don't give up on them just yet. Remember Game 1 vs Rangers...down 3-0 came back to win 5-4. I hope that's not the case tonight because I really can't deal with that tonight, but I'd love to see them take a 3-2 lead before the end of the first.

And yes, 11-10 is highly likely.

that would be insane

if the game now stays 3-2 and the deciding goal was in the last 10 seconds of the first.

But I think we all know that's a pretty far stretch from the truth.

Yep...

That was a nice hit he put on <insert flyers name here> I think in the 2nd period... I didn't see a penalty on it but for some reason the refs did...

My first thought when I seen Orpik going to the box was "I guess all the Flyers complaining about the Pens drawing penalties is now paying off".

I missed the thread

but that was a solid effort by the Pens. I'm so torn now about who's been better for the Pens so far, Malkin or Fleury. Opinions?

When did the PK get so good? I am at a loss. Do you know what they were ranked in the regular season? Because it seems to me like they have vastly improved in the last few months. (Although the addition of Gill and Dupuis must have helped, along with Jordan Staal being ridiculous.)

Now all I have to do is convince my Mom that the perfect Mother's Day plan is to watch hockey...

The PK

wasn't really ranked all that high up there. I think I remember seeing them ranked around 21/22 with 3 weeks left in the season. Unless they shutdown every penalty for the last leg of the season, I can't see how they finished any higher than 15th.

Fleury and Malkin have both been insane - apples and oranges I'd say. Fleury keeps em out and Malkin puts em in. The perfect combo for any team.

What a game!

Great way to start the round!!! The best goal was the Malkin goal after he got drilled and then came back and got a breakaway and scored on the slapper... it was like payback!
