Orpik rejects deal.
Link: Orpik turns down deal from Pens.
Well... that was anti-climactic. Ray Shero needs to get a move on if he wants to retain some of his UFAs.
Malone wasn't happy with his offer, Orpik isn't happy with his... what's going on? Has their playoff run increased their value that much? Is Shero low balling them? Do they just want to move on or test free agency?
Sigh... can someone sign something already?

I don’t like that article or the one from Rossi at the Tribune. It makes it sounds like Orpik is done negotiating with the Penguins. It’s my understanding that with player-team negotiations, like any other negotiation, consists of offers and counter-offers. IMO Orpik merely received an offer and he countered . . . I’m not sure why the news people are making such a big deal about it. . . Though I could be wrong, it’s happened a couple times before.

I’ve been very upset with the Pittsburgh media’s coverage of these re-signings. They add more speculation than fact to practically every situation. Pretty amateur.

I’ve honestly waited for updates here rather than hitting the Pittsburgh media spots for it. Not to overly flatter, but the Pensburgh crew’s analysis is good stuff.

Agreed. Every contributor on this site takes it for what it is, not what the media is spinning. I dig it.

Orpik’s going to re-sign in Pittsburgh. That’s the vibe. It’s a negotiation, and agent Lewis Gross is a negotiator.

I guess, if anything, this gives a little more perspective to the reasoning behind the team filing arbitration with MAF. I suppose they had the same issue with coming to terms, so Pitt must’ve said, “You know what? F it. Let’s file this paperwork, hold onto him and work on the guys we DON’T want to lose before July 1.”
Unfortunately there’s yet to be a single signing out of Pitt.

I don’t understand why any comments are being made to the media then, if it’s just regular negotiation. There’s always a back and forth in these negotiations, but usually the only story comes when the deal is signed, or the player leaves the team. I still think Shero can sign Orpik, but the fact that this information got to the press, along with a statement from his agent, doesn’t make sense to me, unless they’re also advertising his availability to other teams.

All the media hype does is potentially increase the offer to the player because of the collective knowledge that he’s turning down offers, so it MUST be a lot of money.

well it looks like that is exactly what's going to happen
They just traded away rights to Malone, and Orpik, Malone and Hossa have all rejected offers given by the Pens…
