The NHL announced the salary cap will expand for the upcoming season by a drastic $6.4 million difference. This is huge for the Penguins, who may have the capabilities of working something out now with two of their bigger players thanks to the extra cash.
The NHL and its Players' Association announced Thursday a $56.7 upper limit for the 2008-09 team payroll range. That is a 12.7 percent increase on the $50.3 million upper limit from this past season.
