I’ll start

Hossa should rot in hell.

Zetterberg – Datsyuk – Hossa should be illegal.

One Year Deal?

that seems really odd, why would the Wings sign him for such a short term when he could just leave again, its not like theyre missing anything, they won the Cup…..and for that matter why would Hossa only want a one year deal, theres not much security in that.

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

by bren on Jul 2, 2008 1:18 PM EDT   0 recs

I think they’ll need to re-sign Zetterberg next year – may need the money.

And I hate him. I definitely hate him.

Right, but for Hossa side, why would he only sign for one year, his value will never be higher than it is right now; he dispelled all his post season myths and looked great almost the entire time he was with the Pens, so it doesnt really add up to why he would turn down multiple 50 million dollar deals.

This is very peculiar…and quite a blow after the let Malone go

Yeah – I see your point. Perhaps he’s just looking for a Cup and he feels that it’s his best shot to get one.

I read somewhere ....

It was his idea to do a one year deal b/c he has a lot of respect for the RedWings organization, and he feels he’ll have equal value next year when he’ll be 30.

Seems strange to me, maybe he never like Pittsburgh, theyre the younger team and as such, should compete at least as long, if not longer, than the Wings who are slightly older.

This just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but seeing as the Thrashers used the Pens 1st rounder on a guy from a Junior B team, its not so bad i guess.

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

by bren on Jul 2, 2008 6:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’ve got a lot of respect for where he can stick his respect for the Red Wings.

But maybe I’m just bitter.

I'm sorry, Mr. Hossa, but I'm afraid we can't be friends anymore. Why? Because I hate you.

by JDunman on Jul 2, 2008 6:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

They want another one. Repeat.

It just kills me to think he thought , “Hmm maybe Detroit” before he even left the ice for Game 6.”

by FrankD on Jul 2, 2008 1:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yes ur right hes needs to rot for a long time but again like i said lets make the line combos of Jagr-Crosby-Naslund and then sign Demitra to play wing with Sykora- Malkin-Demitra then will have a 3rd line of Dupuis-Staal-Talbot

by pittsburghkid on Jul 2, 2008 1:19 PM EDT   0 recs

What's Next?

So now that Hossa is out of the picture what is next? Obviously we will continue to try and lock up Orpik and maybe sign Jagr, but who else is out there? Could we (would we want to?) get into the Sundin race?

by WoodrowWilson on Jul 2, 2008 1:19 PM EDT   0 recs

Well Hossa is out for a year, that’s certain. Sundin – I don’t want him. (but that’s me)

Orpik is apparantly, if you can believe it, talking to Detroit also.

Jagr seems like a healthy and viable option.

FrankD from Pensburgh.com

If Orpik goes to Detroit, I’m going to cry.

by JDunman on Jul 2, 2008 1:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I can’t believe they’d have the room. But I guess you do when you stock up on D, have 2 (now 3) solid forwards, and a two-way forward like Franzen.

Then there’s always Osgood, the mediocre goaltender who backs it all up. That right there is how you can afford it.

FrankD from Pensburgh.com

by FrankD on Jul 2, 2008 1:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No way on the Sundin pic he wants 10 mil a season

by pittsburghkid on Jul 2, 2008 1:20 PM EDT   0 recs

Maybe this can be that “Remember where you were” kind of moment.

Where were you when Hossa signed with the Wings and stabbed every Pens fan in the back?

I was in a meeting, received a text message and excused myself to go to the bathroom, where I proceeded to text back “WHAT THE F” before returning to the remaining 20 minutes of my meeting

FrankD from Pensburgh.com

by FrankD on Jul 2, 2008 1:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Honestly

Any other team would’ve been fine. Maybe not Philly, maybe not New York – but DEFINITELY not Detroit.

FrankD from Pensburgh.com

by FrankD on Jul 2, 2008 1:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Pens are in serious talks with Naslund and They are talking to Jagr but also are considering Demitra in more of a 2 to1 swap for Hossa and maybe a 3 to 1.

by pittsburghkid on Jul 2, 2008 1:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Where did you read that?

That would be so beautiful. He left Pitt to go to Detroit, then the following year Pitt takes Detroit in the Finals. That would just be hilarious. If I were Sid I’d hold it in front of Hossa and be like “You can look, but no touchy.”

That’d be odd – to gain a reputation as a guy that always signs with the previous year’s Cup winner.

by ahtrap on Jul 2, 2008 2:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

interesting

weird though, I’m not particularly excited by Hossa signing with the Red Wings….

I do like the one year deal though, it keeps the money open for next year when free agency might alter the Red Wings landscape.

Ok, Conklin, Hossa, who’s next? Orpik? Can you imagine three D-lines consisting of Lidstrom/Rafalski, Kronwall/Stuart and Lilja/Orpik? That would be ridiculous.

As for conklin, personally, I think he’s just following the rumors of who is going to get the next outdoor game….he played in the Edmonton one a couple of years ago….and didn’t he play against buffalo for the Pens? Wasn’t that when MAF was hurt? If the next one is Detroit-Chicago, I bet Osgood comes down with a mysterious inury the week before….

by ahtrap on Jul 2, 2008 2:07 PM EDT   0 recs

No offense, but I’m not sure this board is the safest place for an Wings fan right now. Good to see you again, though.

i’ve been checking in every few days since the season ended….decent site for a hockey fix, figure I might as well watch a potential dynasty in the making with the Pens….and then Frank’s giving away stuff, too…

apologies for the gratuitous Orpik remark above, that was just kicking a fanbase when it’s down….sorry!

by ahtrap on Jul 2, 2008 2:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I didn't even know Detroit...

was really going hard for Hossa either. I figured he would end up in Edmonton after hearing the rumors yesterday.

by SCH on Jul 2, 2008 2:44 PM EDT   0 recs

I think he actually wants to win games.

Nah, Edmonton wasn’t that bad this season…but still didn’t make the playoffs.

True – and now I’m reading that Pettitte may have to appear in court with regards to the whole Clemens thing, and miss some time off the mound. So if it turns out to be the case, then maybe – just maybe the Yankees won’t waste anymore time and go after The Sabbath.

On vacation.

I’m sporadically checking my email and the free agent signings while on vacation this week. My initial reaction was WTF??! to the Hossa signing. I’m not sure why he would sign a one year deal, I don’t get it. I feel like my girlfriend just broke up with my and starting getting nice with my mortal enemy. . . talk about dejected.

Detroit

you know, I’m starting to think you Pens fans might hate the wings as much as us Avs fans.

But take solace in this. The Wings did dent the Cup at Chelios restaurant and now Hossa is a traitor who even turned down a 9 mil a year offer from Edmonton. The hockey gods won’t look to kindly on these turn of event.
