ESPN Magazine Ranks Mario Lemieux
In a recent post up on ESPN the magazine's site, writer Ted Bauer ranked the top 500 Canadian athletes of all time. Ranked number one was, as you can imagine, Wayne Gretzky. Rocket Richard landed in second, Gordie Howe third and Bobby Orr fifth.
But where did Mario land?
291 out of 500.
Yeah.
Steve Nash, as good an athlete as he is, should not rank at 187.
Here is the note beside his name:
Great player, no doubt. Won titles, no doubt. Helped save hockey in Pittsburgh, no doubt. Issue: in ten years, he'll be replaced in both Canadian and Pittsburgh hockey lore by…
Dany Sabourin - of course.

Kind of surprised to see Lemieux that low
but I think if injuries wouldn’t have hurt him, he’d be much higher on the list.

But I think even with injuries his list of accomplishments ranks him higher…
