What do Kenny Loggins and Marc-Andre Fleury have in common?
This video...
Watch the helmet cam in full action - even if this is from a few years ago during Fleury's days in WBS.
Next to this, there is nothing in common with Loggins and Fleury...
But now Fleury has a song in common with Tom Cruise from Top Gun, who starred in Vanilla Sky next to Kurt Russell who played Herb Brooks in Miracle, who was co-starred by Noah Emmerich as Craig Patrick who served as the Penguins' GM from 1989-2006.
What I'm trying to say is, that basically warrants a star on Hollywood's walk for Fleury.

Yeah it’s pretty cool. I’m surprised any goalie would volunteer for this. They’re normally very particular about things like this weighing them down or distracting their subconsciousness. Maybe it was preseason…

It was actually mounted inside his helmet, theres an article on it here. The footage was filmed in December of ‘04, during the lockout when he played here in Wilkes-Barre; they were playing the Albany River Rats that night. No one knew he was actually wearing the camera, there weren’t any announcements or newspaper articles or anything until after the fact, because they were afraid the River Rats would aim for his head. I remember him saying that he didn’t even notice it was there, that it weighed essentially nothing. I’m surprised everyone managed to keep it a secret for so long, I heard they were working on getting him to wear it since the beginning of that season.
Awesome. I find it funny that Albany would actually try and shoot for his head, but that is after all the sort of thing hockey players would do.
Thanks much for the contribution, and welcome to Pensburgh!

Haha, if I remember correctly, Albany’s team that year was made up of a big group of, ahem, not-so-nice people who started to foam at the mouth if anyone so much as got within a five-foot radius of Zach Parise. I’m pretty sure they’d shoot at Fleury’s head for the hell of it, camera or no camera.
Thanks! :-)
