EA Sports NHL09
Gentlemen, I bought NHL09 today for the PS3. I just wanted to post in case others have done/plan to do the same.
My PS3 gamertag is, of course, JDMaker1. Please feel free to "friend" me so that we can play. FrankD, go ahead and buy a PS3 and set up a Pensburgh team. A PS3 is a great investment in entertainment.
GO PENS! GO PENS! GO PENS! GO PENS! GO PENS! GO PENS! GO PENS! GO PENS!

I’m hearing good things already, including “best game ever made.” When you compound statements like that with a slated October 21 release for PS2, it certainly makes the concept of buying a PS3 a bit more justified.

I think that could theoretically read “Best hockey game ever made.” Calling the best game ever made is ridiculous, and subject to debate. Every gaming nerd things some game is the best game ever made, and it all comes down to what genre they like, etc.

I also own a PS3, though I have not yet made my decision on which hockey game to partake in. You make NHL 09 seem very tempting, though. My gamertag is JDunmanHere.
I'm sorry, Mr. Hossa, but I'm afraid we can't be friends anymore. Why? Because I hate you.

T downloaded the 2k9 demo. IMO, it was almost childish. I thought the game play was more “arcade-ish” than NHL09. 2k9 didn’t feel like it flowed correctly or it was choppy.
That is merely my assessment of the two games, others may disagree. So JDunman, I vote NHL09.

I hear the same about 2k9. Actually any 2k9 game, regardless of sport, tends to be like that. I’m a big fan of NBA 2K9, but it’s definitely arcadeish. But I’m also not that big a fan of the sport to really care.

My only questions.
Are there more logos for create-a-team? Last year’s only had, like, seventeen.
Also, is there a pre-set list for team names, or can you put in your own.
I would have bought ’08, were it not for those two steps backward from previous releases. And they refuse to give me the chance for 30 created teams in the PS2 versions.
Note: the things I look for in sports games? Kind of a weird list.
Before each game, please remember to feed the bats.

Wish I could answer that for ya – but my stupid system won’t have the game available until October (PS2). JDMaker said he’s buying me a PS3 soon. He’s a swell guy.

Man, I must have been in a drunken stupor or something. I have no recollection of sending that. But as I said before, what’s a little credit card debit between friends?

I'll let you know...
I’ll let you know what I think of the game when I actually get it. I’m pretty upset with EA right now. I pre-ordered (for 360) on the 3rd of September, the game was released on the 11th. It didn’t ship until the 16th. This is after I used EA’s rather inane online help section to complain about not getting my game yet.
Basically, I’m saying that if you are thinking of buying the game, don’t buy from the EA Store online. Go to your local Wal-Mart, Best Buy, whatever. Just a word of caution. I don’t think I’ll ever be buying anything online from EA again, let alone pre-ordering anything.
BTW, Xbox gamertag: PhoenixRising09

I never pre-order anything – I can more or less just get it from whatever store I want when I want it. There have been so many horror stories of pre-orders gone wrong that I would just lose my mind.
Not to mention, EA and NHL.com both says NHL 09 is available for PS2, but there is no mention that it won’t ship out until October 19/20 when it officially is available in stores. Hence, another reason why I never trust the pre-orders.

Pre-order from GameStop and have it set up to ship to your local GameStop store. (It’s really more of reserving your copy than actually pre-odering, but it does ensure that you have the game the day it releases . . . that is if you don’t mind driving a couple miles.)

Well, I got my game today. Turns out bitching to EA seems to get things moving. Overall, lesson learned. Never pre-ordering from EA again.

That’s essentially what I’ve been doing as well. I’d like to get a Pensburgh Club. But the hinges on Frank putting a dent in his credit rating.

Eh, Jason plays on XBox and has such potentially swayed me for complete financial reasons to the darker side (anything Microsoft in my mind) of gaming. But I can assure you this will continue to wait. A $200 Xbox + external HD + game seems more doable for me, especially since I won’t need that external HD until I venture outside of NHL 09 which I can assure you will not be often.

Why would you need an external hard drive? The XBox you’re looking at buying doesn’t have one?

I was told the $200 one only comes with a small memory stick. You can get external HD for another 50 or so

It’s just another option for difference price ranges. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

honestly, all I want it for is NHL 09. Then maybe I’ll consider some sort of shooting game before NHL 10 comes out.

I actually wondered that just as I was typing…probably just NHL two thousand ten. 2K10 is already taken care of. Those crazy cats were thinking ahead over there…

I don’t see anything wrong with a lack of a HDD, but that’s kind of a waste. Every game I have, including NHL09, uses the HDD on my PS3.
And I think it will just be NHL2010 (twenty-ten).
