Sergei Gonchar injured on Lightning's David Koci's hit, Eric Godard hunts him down

Here's the hit Sergei Gonchar took from the Lightning's David Koci.  Was it his head, his shoulder?  Either way Gonch left the ice and  Eric Godard would soon hunt down Koci, pick a fight and stand up for his new teammate.  Hard to say who won, but solid bout either way.

It was a nasty hit. It think he injured the same shoulder that he went ino the boards with in the final. If you ask me it was a late hit. I wasn’t even looking at Gonch when it happened because he already got rid of the puck.

It looks it. I know these guys are fighting for roster spots and such, but sometimes I think they just screw themselves over a bit too. Koci spent the last two seasons in the AHL after spending two short up-and-down stints with the Blackhawks. I don’t think playing like a jerk is going to help his chances, especially under Melrose.

The hit wouldn't have been that bad

but it looked like he lead with his hands/stick to the head…

Not really what I expect in the pre-season.

I’d say edge Godard, neither really landed anything big but it appeared most of Koci’s punches hit shoulder pads.

It seemed like a cheap shot for pre-season to me, but whatever. I respect playing 110% when you’re trying to get a roster spot, but you’ve gotta pick your spots.

IMO, Goddard appeared to land more of his big punches. He even got a few haymakers in there. But it’s pretty hard to tell with that “HD” footage.

Brooks Orpik just came out and said he didn’t think the hit was dirty. Definitely late, but not dirty. Even if it were late, it should’ve at least been an interference call.

I agree though – a little overboard for preseason. Not cool in my book, and I’d be saying the same if it were – oh I don’t know, someone like Steve Downie destroying Dean McAmmond.

definetly Goddard

He dictated the direction of the fight…..hope gonchar is alright, damn preseason games.

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
