March!?!

Promoted from Fanposts - FrankD

I am sick to my stomach!! The Pens website is reporting that Gonchar will be out until March!!  He is going to have surgery on the shoulder.  Ugh...Let's hope no one else gets hurt!  I feel really bad for the poor guy.

Gologoski will probably see a good bit of ice time...I am confident that he can handle it.

The Pens have been down the injury road before.  Losing Gonch for that long sucks, but they'll overcome.

Horrible news. He was initially looking into alternative options without having to consider surgery. But let’s hope his return in March is just in time for the playoff push. Lemieux missed 50+ games back in 90-91 and the Pens were able to handle the Cup that season. Let’s hope the same in 09.

pens will make the playoffs without him just fine

having an aging d-man fresh for the playoffs isn’t the worst thing in the world, assuming he gets back early enough in March to gel with the team.

I have a lot of faith in this kid Goligoski. He lives up to the hype and should really play well with Letang since they were both part of the Baby Pens’ blue line. It’s just strange to think the D-men on Pittsburgh’s first power-play unit last season are both out – Ryan Whitney and Sergei. New look sooner than expected this year I suppose.

Ouch. He may be an aging Dman but he’s a good aging D-man and that’s bound to have a big effect on your blueline. I don’t think it’ll hurt your chances at the playoffs, but you’ll have a few more close games than you otherwise may have. His 53 assists will be missed as well.
