I bet that of all the ways Cooke imagined this season going he never thought he’d be skating on the first line with Malkin and Crosby.

their passes are dead on and in sync

Good. I figured it must be going fairly well if the line made it through the first period without a Therrien change-up.

I like Cooke on the first line. I was very skeptical heading into this game but I like what I’m seeing

I think it all balances out, except with Carey(sp) Fraser. There aren’t any games that I can think of that go down in history as a game by the ref’s.

Tanking for Tavares, essentially.

Oh — and our backup, Joey MacDonald, got hurt five minutes into tonight’s game. So that’s two goalies down.

He’s a good pick up though. I’ve seen him play in the OHL a few times and he’s pretty amazing to watch for someone so young. Actually I’m going again in a few weeks when London comes to town (we had to change our schedule for game watching since he was traded).

by Dayna on Jan 13, 2009 9:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh yeah, I’d be thrilled to have him. And actually right now their 260+ man-games of injuries is just helping them evaluate their youth.

Lighthouse Hockey: an SB Nation New York Islanders blog with hip issues.

by Dominik on Jan 13, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah the whole losing part sucks, but I personally think that Tavares is a better pick than Stamkos was – but that’s just me. I like Tavares though, I might be biased, I’ve seen him play a lot more than I ever saw Stamkos when he was playing in the OHL.

Yann Danis, who Gordon’s shown zero inclination to play. And — get this — even before tonight’s injury, the Islanders were talking to Dubielewicz again, because DiPietro may need to be shelved. Good times.

Goalies do very unnatural things with their lower bodies nightly, I’m not shocked but how is it that some goalies make it so long without injury?

by AngelaMc on Jan 13, 2009 9:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

When I saw how he twisted his body I could kinda tell he was hurt. Didn’t look pretty

Yeah the crappy thing this time is, it’s swelling in the knee where he had “minor, cleanup” surgery over the summer. This wasn’t supposed to be a big deal. An afterthought.

Lighthouse Hockey: an SB Nation New York Islanders blog with hip issues.

Knee, hip – he’s just had bad luck eh?

by Dayna on Jan 13, 2009 9:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I guess. He definitely plays an all-out style that would have made ME balk at giving him 15 years, but …

I think all butterfly goalies are destined for decline or hip injuries. Some just have the bodies or the luck/fitness regimen to go a long while before they start.
