Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Paper says Jackets interested in Staal and Pens interested in a winger (of which the Jacks won't part with). Keep in mind Staal is a restricted free agent after this season. Columbus may have interest in taking him just for negotiating rites this summer.

I bet the phone call for Howson inquiring about Staal was about as lengthy as Blue Jacket playoff history.

There’s only one player in Columbus that Pittsburgh would want, and since he’s their captain and only star, he’s not going. Especially with the BJ’s actually in the hunt for the postseason this season…so far.

I figured it to be bull as well. But I have considered the fact that the Pens may unload Staal before the deadline because i really can’t see them negotiating something after this season. I don’t know how much he’ll ask for but with the way he’s missing open nets lately it’s not worth it.

I’ve always been so on the fence with Staal. I have faith right out of the gate and then he just slumps…and slumps…and slumps.

Then he’ll bust out like he did against the Red Wings back in November for a good two or three game span and then go back to sleep again. He’s so flighty.

He doesn’t use his frame either. He should be in front of the net a la Malone and direct some shots or use his long reach to pick up some rebounds. Unless the Pens use him this way I have this unsettling feeling that wherever he goes they’ll turn him into a scorer.

We better hope we trade staal…he looks lethargic and almost like he wants out…
I just don’t know why he is killing his market value…he needs to get some energy and finish his plays. But crosby and malkin are playin the same way,,,could be coaching…

That link claims Staal is fed up with Therrien to the point where you’d think he’s publicly stating it somewhere. If I were a Columbus fan I’d probably believe the report, but following the Pens I know that not to be true. Everyone gets fed up with Therrien but a lot of the guys have tons of respect for him. Look no further than Brooks Orpik. Last season it was rumored he wanted nothing to do with Therrien and then he re-upped during the summer. However on the other side of things, Roberts and Sydor couldn’t have been more annoyed with him. But they were handled accordingly.
