Ruutu suspended AGAIN!

You may recall that back in November, former Pen Jarkko Ruutu (now a Senator) was suspended for an unacceptable meeting of his elbow with a Montreal player's face.

Well, Ruutu just got two more games off as he given another suspension for biting Andrew Peters of Buffalo. No, really - Ruutu bit the guy. I'm not kidding. Here, look for yourself.

So, comments on biting Peters aside (guffaw), the story over on Empty Netters raised an interesting point that I had not considered. Ruutu got suspended for biting - and that's a pretty bad thing to do in a game. Sean Avery, on the other hand, got suspended for SIX games for basically being a dick in front of cameras. While I make no effort to hide my hatred for Sean Avery, that seems a litte uneven, doesn't it? Certainly seems like he got much worse than he deserved.

I guess next time Avery should just bite the cameramen. Seems like the best way to make a point and not face all that big a repercussion because of it.

only thing I can think of is that Ruutu pulled his stunt on ice, heat of the moment, while Avery was proving himself to be a (fill in your choice of expletive here) in front of the media, in embarrasing terms….and the Stars were probably whispering in the league’s ear, aiming for an excuse to jettison his sorry self.

Either that, or Ruutu managed to convinced someone it was either bite down or choke on Peters’ glove? I haven’t seen an angle where he takes an affirmatively chomp, and though it’s totally blaming the victim, and sounds like a third grader’s excuse, maybe Peters’ finger (and nasty sweaty glove) shouldn’t have been in Jarko’s mouth….if that’s indeed what happened….

The best part about this is that Peters got a 2 minute misconduct and Ruutu skated away without any penalties. Typical Ruutu we came to love and then hate again…
