That’s one of my favorite clips of Mark Messier. And yes, that includes his playing days as well.

Yeah, although I will admit that any advancement in helmet and protective gear gets my vote. I think the entire Harvard College team is wearing his new helmet, but then again they have a better reason to protect their brains than the average person.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
I agree that it’s nice to see helmets continue to advance but when so many players still refuse to wear visors I wonder how much of an effect the helmet will really have.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I’d ask Mr. Nicklas Lidstrom. Took a puck to the face last pre-season, broken nose, wore a visor ever since.

Right. Unfortunately it takes an incident like that to make them think. Look around at how many guys still don’t use them. After Sundin got popped in the eye he still didn’t wear one.

And I’m surprised they are teasing Mason as the guy to get the start in net. Conklin goes 2-0 with a shutout in his last start and he gets benched? Tough break

I hate John Forslund. It would be hard to pick a worse PxP guy.

Is that a reaction to his comment about Pittsburgh’s third line?
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
No it’s a reaction to his work with the ‘Canes. I hope he saves the “Hey hey whatdya say” for the ’Canes because that call drives me crazy. He’s actually probably better on VS because he won’t be such a homer (though he may have a hard on for any Staal) but my hatred for his work runs deep. (The Pens 3rd line is unquestionably bad ass, I don’t know why you’d think I would take issue with that.)

This is going to open up a lot of rushes soon enough. Going end to end this fast works in the first period but I have a feeling it’s going to come back to bite the Pens in the pads

might be true
The Blues were able to turn it on against us in the late part of the game. But then again you don’t have Jimmy Howard in net luckily for you guys haha

I love that mine does. It just took a long time to find it because our cable saw fit to change every channel a week ago.

Has MAF been asked for a reaction to the NHL’s new pad sizing rules? He’s got to be wearing some of the most over-sized pads around.

I would actually be interested to see a semi-official list. Some of these guys wear pads that go almost to their hips.

I’m sure if i put enough time into it, i could figure it out based on pictures. Hiller’s were probably about 4 inches too tall in my opinion

JVR would just add to Atlanta’s youth run. That would be pretty scary

Their ownership will blow it. I’m not worried about ATL in the long term. That trade would have been payback for the Coburn/Zhitnik debacle.

I did not expect Ben and Hines to have the years they are having. On the other hand, I expected way more from Holmes.

Drew Brees, Randy Moss, Ricky Williams are tearing it up for me.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Well, I actually expected more TDs from Hines, but that’s okay. I’m upset that I intentionally skipped over Ben because of his checkered past in fantasy terms (can’t argue with the results, but his stats, that’s something else), and Heath Miller.
I didn’t expect much from Ben or Heath because of the same reason: The OL still blows. I thought Heath was going to have to stay in to block a lot more and Ben would get killed. (And after Sunday Hines should have at least one more TD.)
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
haha don’t feel bad. I drafted Brandon Marshall and Michael Crabtree. Marshall was suspended in week 1, Crabtree didn’t sign and I had to rely on Randy Moss and Tory Holt. Thank God Drew Brees threw six TDs that week

I have Drew Brees too
I lost to an autodrafted team that week. Their first round pick was Brian Westbrook. Yep.

He can take it. Only thing that sucks from a Pittsburgh perspective is that it takes Sid off the ice for 2 minutes.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
I know he can take it. But he didn’t right there. Or in several other games so far this season. He has at least 3 retaliatory stick fouls that I’ve seen, and none of them were prompted by anything egregious. I’d rather him man up and fight if he wants to do something about it (which he shouldn’t). Swatting your stick makes you look like a spoiled brat.

Phil Esposito?
Ray Bourque is the career leader in SOG. It doesn’t surprise me that he holds the record for a single game.
Espo and Orr. If you said “A Bruins D has the record for SOG in a game” I would immediately say Orr. Borque has the career record for BOS SOG because of longevity. He’s obviously an amazing player but he’s still only 2nd best in franchise history (no shame there).
(And his son is scratched for Godard again. Who exactly does STL have to be afraid of?)

Yup. Janssen. Just under 4 min TOI so far.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I agree. I’m not that scared of Janssen, and in reality, I’m not that scared of any of the enforcers. They play less than 10 minutes and they can’t fight a guy who doesn’t want to be fought. When they try to play hockey they usually take restraining fouls because they can’t skate. I’d let Rupp do the dirty work and put the most skilled lineup you can on the ice.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
That was a beauty of a move the other night. I think his problem is that he doesn’t skate well enough to get those chances regularly.

Letang really has to stop trying to buy penalties…
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Is there really any way to make players stop? I’m talking from a league-wide perspective. The last thing I want to see is NHL players start acting like soccer players, but it’s becoming more and more prevalent.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
The diving penalty was supposed to, but that’s such a huge gray area that refs understandably don’t want to call it.
Refs almost never call it and when they do they call the “other infraction” as well. It almost never results in a PP so it’s not much of a deterrent. The league office was going to review plays and issue fines, etc. for dives but they don’t do that either anymore.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I don’t know if you can control it so much but it would be nice if he’d stop trying to buy one. He clearly was grazed on that play at best. He tried to play it off as if the Blues tried to rip his face off
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Yeah but he’s not nearly alone in that. It happens every single game. I know it’s annoying when your guy tries that crap (especially when it takes him out of the play, hello Kovalev). I’m just looking big picture. Until the league does something to stop it players will keep doing it. Can you see Bylsma benching anyone for trying to draw a call?
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Well, often when a player dives, there is an actual infraction to call. A trip that doesn’t succeed is still a trip in the rulebook; it’s not a legal code with room for “attempted” anything. I don’t know that I can recall a trip (say) when there wasn’t a stick on a guy’s legs or feet. Someone falling like they got shot when nobody touches them is just too rare to bother considering.
And I’d just like to say, of all the people charging to the net on a 2-on-1, Eric Godard is at the bottom of my list.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Bullshit. I have Gooch, Crosby and Goligoski and they play this stupid PP2. Bylsma is killing me.
