Hey folks. Mind some company?
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
It was mostly rhetorical. If Hooks or Frank were gonna give me the boot they would have banned me by now. But thanks for the welcome.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Oh, I know. But I realize I have a bit of a bad rep over at Japer’s that I wish I didn’t, so I’m making a conscious effort.
Got ya. I wore out my welcome at Defending Big D the first time I swung through. Still trying to live it down. The internet can be a real bitch.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
And as far as Japers’, until you get banned you’re pretty open to rehab your image. Just bring your A game.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I did get tossed once, but I e-mailed JP an apology and he let me back on. I’ve remained pretty scarce since, though.
Got ya. There are a couple guys from around here that opened up their Japers’ experience with a dust up. One of them knew to let up and is pretty well accepted now, the other one is banned. If you bring a thoughtful viewpoint you’ll definitely be taken seriously, regardless of fandom.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Yeah. I still read the blog pretty religiously, but I know to stay out of the OV8 vs. SC87 frays now.
That’s pretty good advice for anywhere. They are just pointless. Basically my only point in those arguments (at this site) is to defend ridiculous characterizations of AO. I honestly don’t care if you’d take another player over him; that’s a matter of taste. But give credit where it’s due.

That’s acceptable. I have friends who are Capitals fans. I just can’t be friends with Philadelphia fans.
Ha. I have family that are Pens fans (and if you didn’t notice I’m a Steelers fan). I’ve got love for Pittsburgh.

I wondered about that from our discussion during the last game re: Ben, Heath, and Hines.
What’s your take on the game this Sunday? My guess is that they’ll try to stuff Purple Jesus and make Favre throw it all day.
I think that’s what they have to do. I think it’s going to be pretty high scoring considering the quality of the D’s. Ben is going to throw all over the MIN secondary and our D hasn’t been able to get the stops when they really need them so I think Favre is going to exploit that. I hope we can come out with a W, but it probably takes another 300+ yard game from Ben cuz we won’t run the ball.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Well, the amateur statistician says Ben will get 300+ because he’s averaged more than that so far. The smart guy says that 6 games is too small of a sample to know for sure.
I also know that if Favre throws a ton of times, that’s when he starts throwing picks. I look forward to that with the secondary we’ve got this year.
Yeah I like our secondary (with Troy back, obviously). Ben has looked even better than his stats, IMO. But for a bunch of drops his numbers could be downright absurd right now. With MIN missing their top CB and BAL throwing all over them last week I think Ben is going to come out with another strong game.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Yeah, Flacco isn’t someone I’d call a top-flight QB, no matter how much the football media was fellating him last season for whatever reason.
Did you see how bad some of those bombs were? He underthrew wiiiiiiiiide open guys and they just adjusted and got the yards. BAL also seems to break a ton of long screen passes which pad his numbers.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
People seem to forget too that he washed out of his DI-A school (Pitt) to go to Delaware. That doesn’t happen by accident.
Yeah true. But he’s also a legit NFL QB whatever happened before. I don’t think he’s as good as the media does but I’d say he is better than 50% of NFL starters.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

I was asked today who the back-up for MAF was, I couldn’t recall the poor chaps name. How embarrassing, not remembering your teams 2nd goaltender : (
He’s a veteran. I think he has a good disposition for the backup so I don’t think it’s a big deal for him. He’s also an all around great guy and impossible to root against.

It’s almost like Johnson’s going to become our version of Josh Harding in Minnesota. Good goalie, team plays poorly in front of him.
Nah. It’s just like the CBo thing. The whole Pens organization hates the Caps and just want to stick it in their eye whenever they can. They stole BJ just to hang him out to dry.

Hope they get the memo in the locker room that they are playing the equivalent of a college team.
A nobody gets 2 goals against the #1 team on the NHL, go figure.
Ok, I’m done ranting for now, carry on….
That’s a bit harsh. FLA isn’t even the worst team in the league, much less a “college team.” There are several guys that will be playing Olympic hockey on the FLA roster, fwiw. Should the Pens be winning? Absolutely. But this isn’t the end of the world (or the season).

Well it didn’t break. He just dropped it. I’m with Booth on this one (though I’ll gladly take the PIM in fantasy).

When the sound of Booth smacking someone stick out of their hands & it echos through the building, that would be a slash.
by GhostWalker40 on Oct 23, 2009 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions
I saw the call. I’m just saying it’s BS that a NHL player can draw the call just by dropping their stick. When the stick breaks you are taken out of the play so it should be a PIM, but dropping your own stick is on you, especially during a legitimate puck battle.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Kind of like the first 2 bs calls when panthers were diving to get cross checking calls, I see your point
by GhostWalker40 on Oct 23, 2009 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Ha. Ok bro. You’re clearly not objective about this. You honestly cannot be pulling the “dive” card. A horizontal stick to the back is going to be an X-check every time even if the guy doesn’t fight too hard to stay up.

Dude. You really have no idea about me. I have Booth on my fantasy team, that’s why I wanted that goal, jack ass. I’m not Panthers fan (I guess clicking on my tag to see my profile is too hard; or even just reading up above when I out myself). My bias is out in the open on this site and I think I’m pretty objective about how I approach the games. (FWIW I also have MAF, Gogo, Gooch, and Crosby on fantasy teams… so I’m rooting for them as well… also up above in the thread.)
Next complaint…

I want to talk to Penguins fans & not capitals fans.

“That’s just another form of diving, IMO”
by GhostWalker40 on Oct 23, 2009 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Yes. Embellishing a PIM when it really isn’t a PIM undermines the integrity of the game, no matter how it is carried out. If you fall over, or clamp your arm on a stick to draw a “hook” or if you just drop your stick, you’re manipulating the refs to get a call you shouldn’t. “You’re a [Pens] fan, I don’t expect you to see it my way.”
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Holy Christ. It should absolutely not be a PIM in the NHL when you knock the stick out of a guy’s hands. Man up and hold it tighter. Breaking the stick is one thing but dropping it is another. Nonsense.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
You are obviously watching a different game than me
by GhostWalker40 on Oct 23, 2009 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Nope. Same game. Same feed even. Read carefully. I said “should” meaning it is a normative assessment. I understand the NHL does call the “stick slapped out of the hands” a slash, I just think it’s stupid. Bad incentives if you ask me. At some point players are going to just start dropping their sticks or intentionally holding them with a light grasp. That’s just another form of diving, IMO.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

Yes, and sadly Johnson was in net for that one too and got a bad break.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Good thing his playing schedule is probably already set so I don’t really think he’s going to hurt his playing time.

I think the chances are there – Kunitz should’ve buried that one rebound chance but couldn’t get the bounce. Looks like it’s that sort of game. They really should’ve at least converted one PP before the third, but let’s hope they come out on fire this period
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
They came out in the second much better and I thought had the better of the play for most of the period. Should be an interesting third.

Definitely more fire in the second. Need a quick goal in the third and maybe a PP chance to even it up at two. Johnson is keeping them in it though so it’s on his shoulders too.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Yep. The first could have gotten out of hand if not for him. I don’t think the Pens need to push too hard to score right away. If they can get one in the first ten minutes they’ll just pour it on for the second half and I think FLA will crack.

the real bummer is
the bounces just arent going the pens way. yes they got outplayed in the first, but the second was all about bounces

There you go Frank. This is going to be non-stop pressure from here out. Eithe Koun takes this game over or the Pens win.

A buddy of mine’s at this game. He took a pic with his cell phone of someone wearing a blue #21 Pens jersey. Nice nod to Briere, but it had his name on the back. So close yet so far…
Huh?

Michel Briere died in a car accident after his rookie season back in the early days of the Pens. They wore the blue jerseys back then that we use as throwbacks now, but they didn’t have names on the backs of the jerseys at that point. This guy, for whatever reason, decided to put Briere on his #21, I guess just to make sure people knew who it was, but it’s still wrong. :(
Ah. Ok. I only think of one Briere, and I hate that guy. I assumed all Pens fans did too.

Daniel? I don’t really care about him one way or the other. He doesn’t really fit the Flyers mold, though.
He speared AO in the ‘nads once. He also just plays like a bitch in general. That’s enough for me.

Huh. I wouldn’t have expected that from a player of his build, but then again, Stevens seems to do that to anyone who puts on the construction orange.
He actually did it on BUF. And he did it because of his build. He knew he couldn’t challenge AO physically in any sort of respectable manner.

This is just one of those nights. Bounces not going our way, ridiculous goalie, bad calls, and Malkin has missed the net probably 15 times tonight.
The original call was a goal with the hand, which is reviewable. What happened was a hand pass into a goal, which is not. I’m not sure what the final resolution was other than they got it right.

Malkin, giving up another puck. He’s been pretty bad at giving the puck away this year for some reason

3 Stars: the goalies and the GWG, Sid if it goes to Shoot Out. (Actually probably Sid regardless but it should be the GWG)

Which is why it should be the GWG. But it’s in PIT and they choose the 3 stars so they are going to take Sid. He’s also been more noticeable all night than Reinprecht but that’s because he’s Sid.

Whatever happens
I am proud that the team got it together, came back, and put in a real effort. As someone who took a bad financial hit to buy tickets for a game this year, it makes me crazy when they phone it in at home — and they didn’t do that tonight… the first period was horrible but they earned the point they just got. So this was much better than the Phoneix game.
Agreed
They really fought back in the third.

THANK GOD PENS FANS....
….didn’t throw hats on the ice, get embarrassed by throwing hats on the ice for a non-hat trick, then try to cover it up by calling it a “Sidney Crosby Hat Trick – PP, SH, and SO!!!” Put it in Wikipedia!!!
AWESOME game.
I’m so happy for Johnson. It’s not easy to be a backup, and he did an amazing job. Now he gets to taste a W until his next start.
And how much do you love Sidney Crosby tonight!
With all my heart! Bless that boy and his composite stick!

He’s well on his way to a 40 goal season. That would be his first. He’s getting much better at turning chances into goals. something appears to have clicked in his head, or they are slightly changing his role to get him better chances.
Either way, I love him and Malkin, they keep getting better at being on the ice together. that PK line is sick, with those two out there it kills the other teams PP and puts them on their heels.
