CANADIENS BLOG: HABS EYES ON THE PRIZE

Projected line up tonight, via NHL.com, looks fairly familiar:

Forwards
Kunitz-Crosby-Guerin
Bourque-Malkin-Fedotenko
Cooke-Staal-Adams
Dupuis-Rupp-Godard

Defense
Orpik-Letang
Eaton-Skoula
McKee-Goligoski

Netminder
Fleury

I'll sadly be of absence from this one due to the fact I'll be attending a Milwaukee Admirals game with the ol' dad. For a laugh, if he checks in, do pester Frank about how the Admirals beat the Penguins a few weeks back. It clearly had a lot to do with the goalie's helmet.

I’m curious to see the Habs because I have tickets to the Blackhawks / Canadiens game on Friday… their behavior tonight will probably determine which team I cheer for when I go.

Regarding Admirals/Penguins – apparantly the makers of NHL 10 insisted on making the Admirals one of the most ridiculous teams in the game. When I played Lavender a week or two ago, I was the Pens and he was the Admirals. I put about 50 shots on net and his goaltender saved 49 of em before going on to take the win in a shootout. Lame. Lame. Lame.

It always makes other teams a little more cautious and hesitant around the points when you have a legit SH threat on the ice. I like using your scorers on your second unit because the other team is generally going to have a more tired first unit on the ice and you can try to take advantage of it.

Dup also has a knack for shooting right into the goalies pads. the other night against the Devs he and two others had a 3-on-1. All he had to do was shoot to create a rebound (or, uh, pass) and instead he shoots right into Marty’s chest.

I can buy that. I’m very cynical on the media. I was outright pissed that all the Mike Green weight issues didn’t come out until training camp this year even though all the beat writers knew about it last year. My cynical interpretation is that the writers didn’t want to risk pissing off Green/The Caps and lose access. Garbage.

yup, that whole access thing is a big factor in bloggers getting credentials too. Not to get too much into it, but teams feel they can at least control the press. Or rather, what they feed them. Trying to tame the blogosphere is like the wild west to them.

Really I think Kunitz is going through something like Aaron Smith did last season where his kid got sick, the media knew but didn’t report it.

I have no knowledge of what Kunitz’s issues are right now — I am NOT saying any of his kids are sick or anything — but I don’t really have a problem with what FSN is doing tonight.

Don’t know if you remember/saw it, but they highlighted a Kunitz goal as a key to the game….Not unusual to follow up on that point when he’s piling up assists.

I saw it...

Officially…2 goals in 41 games does not qualify a player for my bashing…so Kuni is in the clear till the All-Star break.

Butchers – FYI I have enjoyed your comments and explanation on your thoughts about Kunitz. I might not necessarily agree but at least you back your thoughts up with stats. It’s good to see Kunitz score!

I do appreciate it….and I don’t hate or dislike Kunitz. I’m just trying to generate debate and keep everyone on the Pens equally accountable.

Team Canada made a HUGE OVERSIGHT.

The Pride Of Regina was left off the invite list….

Steve…you need to call Chris Kunitz ASAP.

Actually, style wise I bet he’d hate Fleischmann, possibly Fehr.

Fehr is the better option. He actually contributes when he’s not scoring.

I’d still be bitter about the no-show Semin put on in the Pens series last year… ;)

Yeah I could see that as well. You definitely would lead the charge on the most unreasonable positions.

Goog game, this is why this team is so strong: this is how you respond to a loss properly.

First line is definitely the story of the game.

Crosby – 3G, 9 SOG, +3

Kunitz – 1G, 3A, 2 SOG, +3

Guerin – 3A, 2 SOG, +3

Awesome.
