Phoenix Coyotes vs. Pittsburgh Penguins [Open Thread]
Phoenix Coyotes at Pittsburgh Penguins, Oct 7, 2009 7:30 PM EDT
As noted by Hooks' Gameday links, Brent Johnson will start between the pipes tonight. Can't wait to see this in action.
No word on lineups, but expect them to be like the morning skate lineups.

40 seconds in and already on the PK. Not a fun start in my book

question
prior to the allstar break last year, yotes were in 5th. how does a team get in that much financial trouble when your in contention for the playoffs
" Lord Stanley, scratch thier names on your fabled cup" Mike Lange june 12, 2009
sheer economics I suppose. Lack of interest from the public, poor marketing/media coverage. All of those things are factors. I can’t speak from experience by any means but definitely considerations

It’s when a player tries to connect on a really long pass down the ice to a teammate. When it works it can lead to a breakaway. When it doesn’t it leads to icing mostly, which we just saw twice over

Cooke is notorious for taking penalties at such fitting times. I’m sure Fehr and Balanced knows what’s up. Exactly the reason why Caps fans were saying “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out” when he left DC
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Yeah but that one was a tough call. I was more afraid that he’s always a hit-from-behind waiting to happen. He also has a tendency to hit late and you get the feeling he’s playing with fire.

This is the most frustrating hockey game I have ever watched.
I give props to Phoenix, as they’re playing a good game on defense, but if the Pens cared at all they’d be ahead.
It’s sad that the Penguins are phoning it in at home. I guess I could understand them not getting too excited about playing in Phoenix when the Flyers are tomorrow — but they are playing in front of their home crowd, people that paid a lot to watch them. They should show some energy for the fans if nothing else.
The last thing I want to hear after this game, regardless of the outcome, is another reference to the Stanley Cup hangover.

fyi to the pens
do not under any circumstances do the following:
1) do not let your stick go horizontal to the ice when within 6 feet of a yote.
2) do not get in a scrum in the corner
3) do not come within 2 feet of the goalie.
these all result in penalties today

Do they need to get in mid-season form or is this just the reality of NHL officiating? I’d like to think there is some way to call a good game, as difficult as it is to call an NHL game. But basically every playoff series had some questionable officiating last season and most of the regular season games I’ve seen so far have been below standards.
