The NHL's laundry list of injuries
Injuries are just part of the game, and no one would know that better than Penguins fans. Last season, before the first regular season game of the year, the Pens were without the likes of Sergei Gonchar and Ryan Whitney. If you recall, all the talk early on was focused on how the Pens would manage without them, what fans could expect from this "new guy" Alex Goligoski and whether or not the team could hold it together long enough to even squeak into the playoffs.
Without going into extreme details, we don't need a reminder on how the season ended.
However, as noted by a few writers around the Pittsburgh media world, this season is off to a similar start. Injuries to Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar and Tyler Kennedy leave the Pens in a position where the coaches are juggling lines yet again.
But Pittsburgh isn't the only team dealing with this problem right now. Atlanta, Boston, Vancouver and recently Washington are just a few other teams hit by the injury bug. Plenty of big names across the league are going down with injuries, some serious, others day-to-day. Before you go naming Mike Rupp as the Maurice Richard Trophy winner of the year, take the jump and see what team's around the league are dealing with. Keep in mind it's a long season and most of these guys are going to be healthy before December.
I'm just going to throw out a few notable injuries across the league, alphabetical for your viewing pleasure. Obviously this isn't a list of everything from a hang nail to a broken bone (or hey, even the flu), but feel free to add on the ones you feel are worth mentioning as well. The list may also include a few guys otherwise listed in the minors (ie, Ben Lovejoy)

I just figured it was a league created list.
Is there some sort of mandate for the “questionable” versus “out” lists? Meaning, does a player HAVE to sit for a specified period if on the “out” list, like the NFL? I haven’t followed Lovejoy since he was demoted, so I was wondering his timetable for eturn to WBS or even the big show. Which reminds me of one of my favorite weekly posts from “The Good Phight” (me being a Phillies fan and all) that gave an update on how the top prospects were doing and prospects who performed extraordinarily during that week. Any chance on getting an additional weekly post on the best of the Baby Pens and the Nailers (they are still our ECHL affiliate, right?)?

It’s actually all part of a widget thing we got going on here on SBN but I personally went over it and added a few injuries I knew of that weren’t included. Hence why I left some room for error.
I’ve actually made mention of the fact that I’d love to get an AHL/ECHL affiliated writer involved on the site for that exact thing. No one bit on the post I typed up a while ago but if you know of anyone who might be tight with either of those teams (yeah, Nailers are still the ECHL squad) then send them my way. I could hack something together but I really don’t think I’d be doing it any justice since I can’t even pretend to have a voice of expertise on either team.

Lovejoy has played a couple of games already for the WBS Penguins… he has a goal and an assist in 5… I actually thought he’ll get some consideration to be called-up as a 7th defenseman for the west-coast trip, but no news on that one…
And yes, the Nailers are still our ECHL affiliate:) they sent down CPZ to play there…

I saw “concussion” way to many times, the league really needs to do something about headshots.

unfortunatelly I see a lot of people thinking this way (as do I)… which makes me sad and frustrated at the League…

Wow, Ovechkin such a total wuss! I mean, how much of a little whining baby could he be by getting injured??

All these injuries, yet Marian Gaborik stays healthy?

Didn’t he scrath himself from a game for precautionary reasons?

He was injured before, missed two games (rangers lost both), but is now back. Last game he scored the only goal for the Rangers to win the game. If that team isn’t reliant on him, I don’t know what is

no kiddin. And from what I’ve read on a few sites recently Dubinsky isn’t exactly playing up to the team’s expectancy. He was a healthy scratch in a game or two if I’m not mistaken. Guess he has no problem whining about a contract but when it comes to playing up to it…

A couple more: Ryan Parent and Danny Briere of the Flyers both have groin injuries. Brad May of Detroit is out with an eye injury.

Has Tyler Kennedy’s injury ever been clarified? Is it the flu? A real injury? Is he going with the team to California?
by RCheli on Nov 2, 2009 4:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
A lot of speculation surrounding his injury and little clarification. Last I heard it was some sort of upper body thing. Hopefully it’s not like one of those injuries where it remains an undisclosed upper body injury for a week or two and then it turns out he’s having surgery and will be out three months…

“Roberto Luongo, ribs”
does that mean MAF gets a decent shot at playing for team Canada?

Nah, Luongo is just day to day. Nothing overly serious. Andrew ‘Redlight’ Raycroft is filling in goaltending duties for the next game or two, but Bobby Lu should be back soon. Raycroft is doing a surprisingly stellar job too.

Raycroft actually had a shutout the other day, ergo the avs offense sucks.

Yeah I was surprised. The game before that he looked like his old self all over again, while in his first game he stumped the Kings in a shootout. It’s getting predictable. Good game, bad game, good game…bad game?

It’s more then expected though. Usually it would alternate between bad and really bad games.
