Tales of the Tape: Matt Cooke vs. Ilya Kovalchuk
The most annoying part about this fight is that everyone in the arena except the cameraman knew that Ilya Kovalchuk and Matt Cooke had dropped the gloves. It took him/her a few seconds to react, but by the time the camera finally does land on the combatants it looks as if Kovi is getting his pads handed to him.
But hey, you decide:

Id like to vote but I abstain. I would like to think Cooke won but how can I be sure when I didnt see 3 quarters of it?

Awful camerawork, but I call it a win for Cooke because Cooke was laughing himself sick in the penalty box.
Earlier last night, we watched the NASCAR Nationwide (second tier) series finale, and Denny Hamlin deliberately spun out Brad Keselowski. (Krashalotski had it coming, and not just ‘cause he vocally supported the Wings during last season’s SCF.) Hamlin grinned during the post-race interview and said he felt “great” about it. Seems like it was just that kind of night!
It looks like our roster’s being depleted now—no Hooks Orpik and now no JDunman. But you’re doing fine covering it, Frank.

Good job, Matt Cooke!
I like the fact that in addition to instigating, Cookie can also play throw some hits and score goals occasionally. But it is good to see him get under a star’s skin like this. Did Kovi return to the game after this fight?
go pens!

no, he got 19 minutes worth of penalties with something like 13 minutes to go:)
You have to see it for yourself...

Cooke is playing a much more disciplined game this season. I really admire that, especially since all of last season it felt like he was taking penalties at all the wrong times (but is there REALLY a good time to take a penalty?). Last year he had a total of 101 PIM, 10 short of his career-high total of 111 with Vancouver in 2002.
So far this year he has 31.

I gave Kovalchuk the draw
Just got to give props for him even being willing to mix it up with the Cookie Monster.
