Montreal Canadiens at Pittsburgh Penguins [Open Thread]
Montreal Canadiens at Pittsburgh Penguins, Nov 25, 2009 7:30 PM EST
Salut PensBurghers! (see what I did there? Oui? C'est Faux? Je ne sais pas.)
Now that I've blasted through my lone French, which I vaguely remember from high school, let's kick the wheels on this one. Since the return of Geno, this team has looked refreshed, and, as players start coming back(Orpik, TK), we should be getting all the better.
As this is the last Game Thread before Thanksgiving, I wish you all a happy one, and may we all eat to excess as we watch football.
Cheers, Put on Your #87 Sweaters, and Let's Go Pens!

hah and now they have to rely on Gustavsson even more now that Toskala is out. He’s good, but he lacks in the experience department

So are the regulars all at the game or traveling for Thanksgiving? I’m counting on you all to get me through the Caps intermission.

I don’t have to travel far tomorrow. I’m layin in bed relaxin for this one. Tomorrow will be a nightmare either way with my family

I tried to drive to NY to my parents’ house. I left at 2, at 5 PM I was only 20 minutes north of DC so I turned around and went home. Driving back to my house it took 45 minutes, driving through DC during rush hour. That’s how bad 295 was. Insane.

Eesh. So even if you did get out of DC the LI Expressway would’ve been a nightmare too

Right. I was hoping to get to the New Jersey Turnpike before it became a mess. I figured leaving at 2 PM all the people that didn’t work today would have left last night or this morning, and the people that worked today would still be in work. No such luck. It was a crawl from the start so when I couldn’t even get to Baltimore in 3 hours I turned around.

guess it’s Thanksgiving time, since i’m in England that doesn’t apply to me.

I think we can start admitting it. He put on a good show last time out.

Is it one of those “blind squirrel finds a nut” or a matter of him getting acclimated to the speed and system.

I think he’s getting adjusted to the speed, the last couple of games marked a notable rise in performance by Bourque imo.

I think he’s just starting to really step it up. i can’t really pinpoint it, but I came into this one convinced he was going to score. Of course, I thought that only because up until a few minutes ago I wasn’t even supposed to be home right now and figured that the game I missed would be the game he scores in

That’s good to hear. I root for small guys anyway and I thought he’s worked real hard to get where he is. Knowing how much the Pensblog hates him makes me like him just a little bit more.

Sid – GOAL What a shot. He loves playing against Montreal

Sid doesn’t score from that far out! What’s he doing?! (And nice glove C-Price. I’m waiting for Alan Walsh to tweet about it.)

Alan Walsh is his agent. He’s extremely vocal on Twitter about all of his clients, including Price
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
No, Walsh is Halak’s agent. Before Price got hot Walsh tweeted about Price’s cold streak (sub-.900 Sv% and 3+ GAA) to make Halak look better. Poor form.

I give credit where it is due, and Crosby is due plenty. Normally he’s not the type to score from the top of the circles but that was a pretty shot.

he’s shooting a lot this yr. and they’re not all rebound/chippy goals either
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Yeah he really looks like he’s being more assertive trying to score his own goals this year. When he strikes that happy medium he is going to be even scarier. (Same goes for AO, has been passing the puck much better this year, his teammates just aren’t obliging him by finishing. We haven’t seen the best from either of them yet, I don’t think.)

Agreed on both counts.
Sid finally got a curve on his blade and changed his stick to a one-piece, which has made a huge difference in his shot, too. Thankfully, it hasn’t destroyed his playmaking abilities.
Interesting. I didn’t realize that. I’m not sure why one piece makes a difference other than simplicity but I guess it may. I think Sid’s hands are so good that he doesn’t need a totally flat blade to make plays on his backhand. Turns out he agrees.

Like, Russia’s answer to the ravioli. Instead of meet or cheese it’s potato (sometimes with cheese)

Good flow to this game so far. nice show by Godard, good work by Rupp and Adams too. This could’ve been a 2-0 intermission but if the Pens keep it up it will be soon enough

Still not a very good shot on goal, but a goal nonetheless.

Maybe MAF can make good on his non-shutout by draining a goal with the empty net

Could you imagine how many goals Sid would have if it acted like OV?
I’m sure his washing machine isn’t to happy how he plays now
I’m not sure what that means. I don’t think either one should drastically change their play. I don’t think Sid would ever get as many goals as AO can and I don’t think AO could be as good of a playmaker.

If the league counted goalie goals I’d be cool with that too. I coulda used the shutout but 1 goal is cool with me.
