That’s hardly a shocking prediction. The only question is will it be a sucker punch or a cross-check to the back of the head?

And Bourque is on the fighting line.
Excellent.

Maybe they can get Borque out there against Gaborik. Word on the street is you only have to brush lightly up against him for him to go down like he’s taken sniper fire and miss 4-8 weeks with a wonky groin.
Fantastic pass by Talbot there.

Really? Usually I keep half an eye on the Caps but didn’t watch any of the game tonight.
You come at the king, you best not miss.
Supposedly it wasn't.
Text from a Canes fan was saying he went for a slew foot on Gleason and screwed up his ankle in the process. He’s out with a game misconduct.

That’s horribly inaccurate. (I wasn’t aware there were any ’Canes fans there. Zzzzing.)
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
They got lost looking for the Panthers game.

Eh, I'll cut them some slack.
They went from EC contenders to bottom-of-the-barrel in, what, two weeks? Couple that with a Monday night game and I can see people not wanting to make the drive since that area is really spread out.

Eff that. I understand not going when you’re losing. But that’s years of losing. They come in talking all this shit about how they’re a great fan base and they are gonna take the Caps and then they can’t fill this game?

I just realized you thought I was talking about Florida.
I meant Carolina. But yeah, they’re still way lost.

Speaking of Panthers, Vokoun pulled after allowed two goals in the first nine minutes.
I guess when you’re depended on as much as him, you don’t get much slack.

AO leaves with what looks like a very bad knee injury and got a 5 minute major for tripping.

Looked a lot like AO on Gooch.

Yup. I’ll watch it more after the game but I (obviously) don’t see intent.

When have you ever see any intent when it comes to Ovechkin?
You come at the king, you best not miss.
The Briere hit from behind I’m on record saying he should have been suspended and is the worst hit of his career. The Peverly slew foot I’m not a huge fan of but I don’t think he went in there looking fora slew foot until Peverly knocked him off balance. The hot stick was lame.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Gotcha, didn’t have your official stance on everything handy. (I was half kidding too, as I think you may have inferred).
You come at the king, you best not miss.
It’s cool, and a fair question to ask. I call plenty of people on their shit and I have no problem with you calling me on mine. I’m obviously strongly inclined to give AO the benefit of the doubt (and considering my stance on the Gooch hit I don’t feel much differently about this one) but I’m not blindingly faithful. He just has to obviously cross the line for me.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
The Gonchar hit rubbed me the wrong way, but I don’t think it was McSorley or Bertuzzi or anything.
This one I just caught one replay, not gonna comment until I see a little more backplay (and different angles). Just hope both parties aren’t seriously hurt.
You come at the king, you best not miss.
Pretty much my take on the Gonchar deal. It struck a nerve more by the timing than anything.
But I’m not a fan of knee on knee hits no matter who’s dealing or who gets hit. It’s not fair to punish players for doing things accidentally, but that’s one case where I’d put up with it if only to make players think before they stick a leg out in the hopes of making the check they were about to miss.
(No, not saying that’s what happened in either case here.)
AO keeps a wide stance in general. He’s extremely prone to leg contact and he really hasn’t learned/decided to be more cautious about it. I just hope this isn’t a serious injury, and he starts to think about it.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Gleason is already back, so it’s safe to say he’s good. I can definitely see how AO’s hits rub you the wrong way, Canes fans booed him off the ice (classy). I’m just saying, if you want dirty, you want Dale Hunter, not Alex Ovechkin.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Oh geez, just saw the replay, looks bad. Hopefully his knee wasn’t on the ice and no ligament damage.
You come at the king, you best not miss.
Looked real bad. He was having a hard time getting off with a trainer and Backstrom helping him. No pressure on the right leg at all. Gleason left too.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I guess. Or inevitability. Or whatever. Choose your level of AO-hate.

I’ve met him before, he’s a cool dude (I kept talking about his old buddy Ryan Stone). Glad that he’s seemingly healthy and starting to score.
You come at the king, you best not miss.
Yeah he’s finally getting ice time. You look at DMG’s work since last year and he’s produced even with our best non-Alex scorers but never got the ice. Health is definitely huge for him as well. (I saw him at Rays the Steaks but didn’t say hi.)

Oh my God.
Kovalchuk scores, Ballard gets pissed off and slams his stick against the goal but it came down on Vokoun.
Jesus.

Kind of, but Vokoun was on his knees and it happened from the front/side.
I dont want to speculate but it look like it hit him in the throat area. Scary.

I just saw the incident… what an incredibly stupid play by Ballard… he didn’t even understand what happened and kept swinging… damn!

NOTED GOAL SCORER
Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
I was pleased when I saw that the Penguins had picked him up. His particular skill set had rendered him obsolete with the emergence of players like the scrappy, goal-scoring superpest David Clarkson and heavyweight Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond (we sure know how to name ‘em in Jersey, eh? I mean, come on: Lyle Odelein, Oleg Tverdovsky and so on and so forth). I was glad he and John Madden, another player the Devils didn’t resign because of younger players who had been marinating in the system were able to step into his role for a smaller cap hit, found good homes where they’ve fit in well and are liked by their new teams’ fanbase.
Even though Rupp is no longer a Devil, I’m sure there’s still nothing sweeter than shafting King Henry the Ranger. Good goal.

Rangers know they’re not getting anything by Flower the normal way, so they’re hammering him all night.
His skating ability still somewhat surprises me when I take into account both his height (6’4") and weight (which I’m guessing is somewhere around 230 pounds, at least, taking into account both his his height and broad shouldered build). According to the laws of physics, it doesn’t seem practicable that a person that tall and heavy could move so quickly, but I suppose the lack of friction due to the slick surface of the ice and Staal’s low center of gravity could result in a lot of forward momentum. I don’t know. Science was never my friend.

Why can't Mendy bust a long TD run? We could use it.
I remember one all-star game where during the skills competition Gaborik was making this absolutely sick moves and I thought to myself “why don’t we hear more about this guy?”
On another topic: Saints or Patriots? My money’s on the Saints. There offense is just too strong. Still, it should be a good one.
Ovie got what was coming to him
How many knee-on-knee cheap shots can one guy give out? Finally took out his own knee, good for him. Maybe that will stop him from being a douche in the future.
As much as I hate to see anyone get injured, I have to say I agree. AO takes way too many liberties with other players, even though I’m sure he’s not trying to injure them. Time he learned a lesson that it goes both ways.
He plays reckless and is constantly having questionable incidents. With the way he plays people said something like this was bound to happen.
You come at the king, you best not miss.
I’m actually surprised something like this has happened to him before now taking into account the way he plays. I wonder how serious it is. I also wonder if the injury, regardless of its severity, will make Ovechkin take a long, hard look at how reckless his own physical play is. Until tonight his recklessness had only ever hurt other players, not Ovechkin himself. One would hope, but I doubt it. Ovechkin doesn’t strike me as the introspective type.
So, what did I miss?
Just got done covering a game on campus, and, I can report, that our assitant Women’s Basketball coach is a Penguins fan who may join the site soon (Awesome).

I’m gonna say that one is bad. Looked like the skate went up his whole calf and potentially up into his hamstring.

It looked like Joe Sakic’s injury a lot if you remember it. Very innocuous looking. The highlight isn’t gruesome. It was like the 4th or 5th replay when I caught it but if you watch Alzner’s skate you’ll see.

It’s really a bizarre night… in the BUF TOR game Miller injured (more like bruised) a photographer by clearing a puck right through the small hole on the side of the glass
You have to see it for yourself...
Maybe I should turn the TV off
before a loose puck shoots through the screen.

Normally I’d agree, but I’d really have to give it to Flower at this point.

If you want to make it a really bad deal...
ask for Rozsival as well.
Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
Why can't Mendy bust a long TD run? We could use it.
throw in redden as change and RS and Sather switch sides aswel.

I have been in my vehicle in traffic for 3 hours… at least I get to some of the game. I missed all the goals thus far. I would like one more Pen goal please.
there you go

Noted hat trick! Although it feels a bit dirty that one of them is an empty-netter.

Eh, I don't care.
It was very nice for a ENG.

Wow, good for Rupp! Way to stick it to the Rangers. It must suck for them to have given up two hat tricks in two games against the same team. I look forward to hearing John Tortorella’s ‘thoughts’ after the game (I’m stuck with the MSG feed, but watching Torts blow up at the media after a humiliating loss just might be worth it).
The best part? The guy who got the last hat trick almost got another as well.

I think if there’s one thing that both a Devils fan (me) and a Penguins fan (all of you guys) can agree on is that watching the Rangers, no matter to whom, just makes you smile. I know I’m grinning right now.
Devils fan as well. Although the pens and devils are battling for 1st in the east/pacific, I still love watching the rangers lose. And a hat trick for Rupp??? always liked him.
It’s shaping up to be a nice battle this year, us Pens could use some revenge against the Devils aswel.

That’s what NJD does. You don’t get to play your game. They do.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Idd, it’s annoying but you got to respect them for it too.

Same here. I mean, he did score the game-winning goal for the Devils in Game 7 of the ‘03 Stanley Cup Finals against the then ’mighty’ Anaheim Ducks. It’s kind of hard not to harbor some affection for that player, even though he plays for a different team now. Though I am still a little irritated at him for decapitating Pandolfo or whatever it is he did that knocked Pando out of the line-up (not that it’s made a difference really).
Tons of injuries and Mike Rupp gets a hat trick? Weird night
