Cocktail Recipe--The Noted Goal Scorer
Seventh in a series that celebrates individual Penguins players and their notable achievements through almost the only creative medium in which I can actually make something worth sharing--alcohol.
Before he came to us, Mike Rupp was known as a big guy who wouldn't back down from a fight, but never as a goal scorer. This began to change when he put on the sweater with the hockey playing penguin. His young son wanted Rupp to score a goal for his birthday. While other players were injuring their own goalies and taking themselves out with knee-on-knee hits, the man who is now known as noted goal scorer Mike Rupp got his first-ever career hat trick and broke the Penguins' Madison Square Garden curse. Since he didn't get to do it on hat night at his new team's home arena, he deserves more of a celebration. This, the result of my brother and I wondering why iced tea isn't used as a mixer more often, just seemed right.
The Noted Goal Scorer
1 shot Tanqueray Rangpur or other lime-flavored gin
About 6-8 ounces brewed Earl Grey tea
Teaspoon of lime juice
Sugar or Splenda to taste
Combine ingredients in a tumbler half filled with ice, stir. It gets no easier.
As you can imagine, the lime flavor is strong in this one, and we meant it that way. You can always use plain tea or gin, or leave the lime juice out.

Now that sounds pretty good. ;-)
I’ve never had lime-flavored gin, but I can only imagine it has a little kick to it. That more or less defines Rupp to a T(ea) – makes it look smooth put can pack a punch when needed.
Nicely done.

I was hitting the “publish” button and thought, “FrankD ought to approve of this one. It’s not carbonated.” :-)
I have tried to at least have the drinks, if not perfectly match the player’s style, at least make some sense. (Like, I’m not naming a blue tiki bar drink after Godard or a bracing martini after Crosby.) I’m glad you said that.

Hah yeah, I can handle this one
I started to notice the similarities and trend. I wonder what the Chris Bourque one will consist of…

It will be one of those test tube drinks that the pretty girls carry around the bar that are devoid of any quantity of alcohol and therefore are nothing but a tease from the waitress and a letdown from the drink.
haha now that’s an accurate assessment. Maybe even a can of O’Doul’s.

I’ve already suggested a combination of milk, orange juice, and grappa (nauseating in multiple ways), but those are excellent, too! Something that seems like it should work on the surface, but just plain doesn’t. Who knows—if Bourque works hard and applies himself, I might upgrade him to Pabst by the end of the season.
I really didn’t think that my “Cussing Penguin” recipe/commentary would turn into something I’d keep going on a semi-regular basis, but this is fun. I’m already trying to match other drinks to other players.

I’m a fan of the idea. Truth be told i kinda look forward to your new drink recipes following each game.

Thanks! I didn’t see anything particularly “cocktail-worthy” in the last game, but I’m pretty sure we all will tonight.
