Gah, come on Duper!
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
The Devils play an awfully boring style of hockey. What’s with the weird lines tonight? I’ve seen Cooke out with Crosby as well as Dupuis.
Somebody needs to tell the Penguins during intermission to stop trying to stuff the puck in on the wrap-around. They are 0-3 on those attempts, and Brodeur is wise to their game. He keeps slamming the door before handing the puck off to one of his defensemen to skate it out of the crease.
Nah, not really. When it comes to hockey teams, I know who is first in my heart, and it’s the Devils. When it comes to the Penguins, I’ll root for them against whoever they’re playing against except for the Devils. I guess it just goes with the territory of being a second favorite team – I enjoy watching the Penguins play, and like seeing them win, but I don’t feel the same sense of frustration when they are playing poorly that I do when the Devils decide to pitch a stinker.
Wow, the horrible Panthers are beating the horrible Flyers right now.
Oh wait, Panthers are sure to blow that lead, never mind…
and Boucher went down the tunnel with an apparent injury… now Leighton is in goal… things seem to get from bad to worse in Philly
You have to see it for yourself...
aaaaaarrrrrrrr…. damn it… another missed block, and another goal by Bergfors…
You have to see it for yourself...
come on flower bad goal there.

Pens need to get back to basics. Put Mike Rupp out there and fuckin dump and chase. Too many turnovers at the blue line
go pens!
Yeah, they just keep trying to carry it in & still don’t realize that it’s not working

The problem there is Brodeur is a brilliant puck handling goalie.

blade of a Devils’ stick into his face. I hope that didn’t get an eye or anything.

I’m hoping it wasn’t an eye or directly on his nose. That was a load of blood, hope he’s ok.
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
Broken noses bleed that much. I’m guessing that’s what it is.
I’m wondering, though, why the NHL specifically disallows full face visors unless you’ve had a facial injury recently.
I wish they had people at least wear visors, it could be helpful for things like that.
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
I think the NHLPA made the league that leave that a personal decision for each player to make on his own. The majority of players wear visors. Those who choose to abstain are either fighters or defensemen, who refuse to wear a visor as a sign of toughness. It may not make much sense to the rest of us, but I know that a lot of defensemen who wear visors get heat from opposing defensemen who don’t for being ‘soft.’
I’d rather have my eyes and be called soft 50 times a game, thanks.
Then again, when I play, it’s usually in goal, so I view anyone who doesn’t want a full cage or full visor as slightly insane. :)
I get that aspect. Still, I’d take some light yapping over a hard slapper to the face. It’s kind of rare to get those shots up high that connect, but I would risk it.

ok…it’s official we are now last in the league on the PP.

stall has the longest game streak going for the pens hopefully its not too serious and he can come back tonight.

If it’s any consolation, the amount of blood on the ice made it look more like a cut to the face than anything else (superficial wounds anywhere on the head bleed like crazy). He’ll definitely need stitches, and depending on how hard the puck hit him, they might keep an eye on him for concussion-like symptoms. I’ve seen way worse, though.
No, the 1st one I don’t blame on him, but the last 3 were all on Fleury. He’s garbage tonight
by GhostWalker40 on Dec 21, 2009 8:50 PM EST up reply actions
so a rising wrist shot from the point, not him, but 2 PPGs and a 3 way screen (2 being your on d-men) is his fault?. If you were on my team…I don’t think I’d like you much…that’s pretty critical. lol
Like I said, if the Pens have to rely of Fleury, they do not win, that’s a fact!

BTW thanks a lot for your highlight videos, but now I’m starting to get why you almost never have saves in them :)
Guess you don’t watch my videos very often then, I show all of his great saves.

Brent Johnson time.

He has the best helmet in the NHL.
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
What does he have on it? I can’t really see it from this far away. I like the froggies on MAF’s helmet, a reference to his French Canadian roots, I assume.
That radio feed just said Staal took a puck to the nose. My guess, it’s all sorts of broken :/
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
How can Brodeur be that far from net and not give up a goal!!!

FIGHT!!!!!
“Shhhh”
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure he got tossed because there was only, like, two minutes left in the period.
Does anyone even know what started that whole thing? All I know is that the play got whistled down on an offsides and everyone sort of dogpiled.
It looked like Max started getting into it a little bit. I honestly don’t know how they knew who did what, and, if they did, how we got off without any penalty.
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
Talbot took a shot at someone (Elias?) after the whistle blew, and then a couple of Devils retaliated.
Our PP should be so much flippin’ better than this.
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
They hold it a lot too. They should be circulating the puck, and creating angles for good shots.
I’m at a loss for why they aren’t jut setting up chances, or firing away like mad and crashing the net for rebounds.
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for Deking a Duper Deke that made a Duper Duck.
A blocked shot often equals a shorthanded attempt against, that’s why.
The real problem is that they insist on standing still, as if their feet were encased in cement. If they each got THEMSELVES to spots with open shooting lanes, they’d fare better.
You’ll get yelled at for saying that, keep it on the down lowm;-)

Lol well he was FANTASTIC the last two games, now tonight, he gave up a bunch of soft goals…
how’s that?

Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s the way he stands in the goal. When he makes a kick save while falling backwards the resemblance is uncanny.
I guess. He was never an acolyte of Francois Allaire, the goaltending coach who made Patrick Roy and the butterfly style of goaltending as famous as it is today. As a teenager Marty went to a goalie camp where Allaire was teaching and came home after the first day and refused to go back because Allaire wanted to make him play butterfly and he didn’t want to.
we’re not scoring tonight… listless effort… I know we can’t win them all, but jeez, we were never in the game
Maybe they’ll trade gasp the best Captain of all time, Mikey Richards.

And he’s likely 100% less of an alcoholic than Sawchuk was. Or as NHL books would have you believe, Brodeur doesn’t have “any demons.”

Pens played bad
Crosby was bad even though he won 73% of his faceoffs
Malkin was invisible again…another dumb penalty…
That said, congrats Marty on the Shutout record!
I’m glad the Pens fans clapped…the Cryers fans would’ve booed.

I thought that was very classy on the part of the Penguins fans. You’re definitely right that the Flyers or Rangers fans would never do that.
I think there’s more a rivalry between the Devils/Rangers/Flyers than the Pens have with NJ. I mean, it’s an obvious division rivalry but it’s not to the same degree as a NYR/NJ game.

I agree. There just isn’t the same animosity between the Penguins and Devils as there are between the Flyers and Devils or the Rangers and Devils, a lot of which has to do with geographical proximity (in the case of the Rangers) and several playoff series (the Flyers).
I think it also has to do with the fact that the Devils and Pens are more skilled, and are, generally, both better than the Flyers, Rangers, and Isles. Therefore, when the two teams meet, they have more to play for.

If the Atlantic division was a family of brothers I’d say the Penguins and Devils are the two older brothers who have respect for one another but aren’t afraid to be competitive. The Rangers would be the cocky brother who pops his collar and thinks his two accomplishments over the span of 83 years are still worth bragging about. He’d also be an egomaniac who feels the entire world is out to get him, but there’s no better city for hockey than a nice corporate level, Wall Street-driven NYC. The Flyers would be the tough younger brother who thinks the only way he’ll get noticed is if he bullies his way to the spotlight, but once he gets there (playoffs) he can’t hold it. And the Islanders? Eh, they’re kinda like the runt of the litter. You hang their accomplishments up on the fridge and encourage them with such motivators as “good job” and “keep trying! you’ll get it!” But you keep the cookie jar just out of their reach.

Cut his ice time. Sometimes that’s the only thing that gets through to players sometimes. I mean, my puppy will pee on the rug until I rub her nose. Unpleasant consequences sometimes lead to positive results.
Perhaps, but Malkin isn’t a cut-his-ice-time sort of player. Only Wade Redden gets benched and makes $5 mill

Agreed…unfortunate, but true…the penalty he took tonight didn’t hurt the team because the game was already over, but the penalties he’s taken in the other 5 games could have very easily hurt them badly.

Thankfully the PK is more efficient than the PP
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
This may just be my personal point of view as a Devils fan, but I’ve never really given a crap about how crappy the power play was as long as the team was scoring at a good clip five-on-five and their penalty killing was extremely good. I don’t know how good the Penguins are on the PK, but they don’t really play the type of game where they can win without having a pretty good power play. Offense is their bread and butter, and when you aren’t scoring with the man advantage it will come back to bite you more often than not.
You’re right.
I think our PP might not hurt us as much in the regular season (after all we are 2nd in the league), but it WILL hurt us in the playoffs. They need to get this figured out now.

Well as of the outcome of this game the Pens are 10th in the league, tied with Minnesota for 83% on the PK. The PP? Worst in the league at 30th.
