Jeez, Adams loses a faceoff cleanly, Crosby and McKee get in the field of vision and the puck ends up in the net.

Not too much went right for the Pens there.

Pensburgh.com

You come at the king, you best not miss.

by Hooks Orpik on Dec 23, 2009 7:32 PM EST reply actions

I want to know why Crosby wasn’t taking the faceoff there. I realize that’s not his strong side, but he’s not in the top 10 in faceoffs by just winning draws on his stong side.

871

by PensFan8725 on Dec 23, 2009 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

You answered you’re own question, it’s better to have a right-handed guy in Adams, who’s better in tha situation.

Crosby could have lost that just as easily and it would have been worse: the Pens wouldn’t have had their best chance to win.

Pensburgh.com

You come at the king, you best not miss.

by Hooks Orpik on Dec 23, 2009 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

I didn’t get that last part, but as I said before, Crosby’s your best faceoff guy period. I think you trust him to win you a draw in your own zone over Adams.

871

by PensFan8725 on Dec 23, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

He’s not the best in certain situations, like on his weak side in the defensive zone. Having Adams for the draw was, by the odds, the best bet. Despite the overall percentages, in this situation it was best.

Pensburgh.com

You come at the king, you best not miss.

by Hooks Orpik on Dec 23, 2009 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

If Crosby’s on the ice, he should be taking the faceoff becuase he’s your best guy. That’s just my opinion.

So I did a little digging.

Most saves in a game by a Penguins goaltender – 57, on Marc 12, 1989 against the Blackhawks. I believe Tommy B

most saves in a period on home ice – 23, in January 1989
