Crosby, Fleury make Team Canada
Unsuprisingly, Sidney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury have been named to Team Canada for the Winter Olympics.
Jordan Staal was not chosen, but he's in pretty good company with some other forwards left behind (Vinny Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, Ryan Smyth, Shane Doan, Jeff Carter, and on and on and on).

Crosby also joins Chris Pronger and Jarome Iginla as alternate captains. Scott Niedermayer was named captain. A little unexpected for them to announce that today.

Am I the only one
who is happy that Sid got the A and that Richards (the greatest leader ever, if you didn’t know) got nothing. I guess it’s not surprising when the questions surrounding Sid was whether or not he would be Captain, while Richards wasn’t even a lock to make the team.

But according to my Flyers fan buddy, Richards is the better “all-around” hockey player. YEAH RIGHT! Richards is the one-legged man in an ass kicking contest with Crosby!
I’ll give Richards the one up on the PK, but I think Crosby has proved (like he even had to) that he’s by far better than Richards at everything else in hockey. Richards might’ve had the edge in shooting, but no longer.

Crosby doesn’t have to concentrate on killing penalties.
I think Richards is better at lining people up and drilling them, but other than that Crosby is a superior player in every regard.

Well at least Crosby doesn’t have to concentrate on the killing penalties on Team Canada. I don’t know if anyone’s noticed but his SH ice time/game has steadily gone up throughout the year. Sometimes it’s just to take the face-off, but a lot of times he actually kills a good 30 seconds.

Fun stat: playoff records since 2003-04,
—Brodeur 15-22
—Luongo 11-11
—Fleury 31-18 (2 SC Finals)
Can’t wait for the Canucks to use Brodeur in the medal round and hear the backlash if he loses.

If I’m not mistaken, Fleury was chosen as the second goaltender…leaving Luongo as the “odd man out” if you will.
That playoff stat is pretty telling….

Dirty Commie Bast*rd! :)
Where is your patriotism?? This squad has a better chance than the 1980 squad. Anything can happen!! I actually think the Pens were bigger underdogs going into the Cup last year!
Haha, mainly joking.
I do like the USA will be big and strong. I think they have a chance in a short tournament with that mentality.
Ryan Miller’s been the best goalie so far this NHL season, if that continues, USA should be a pleasant surprise.

Congrats to Fleury. I know he was the one with a little bit of a question mark hovering overhead but in the end he did crack the Olympic lineup on what must’ve been one of the hardest teams to make.
As for Sid? Meh, whatever. j/k
