Sidney Crosby injured for tonight's game against Blackhawks
Not really sure how to take this one since it sounds like something that's been bothering him for a while, but however you look at it the Pens will be without Sid tonight against Chicago.
Here's a quote from the official team release:
"My groin is bothering me a bit. I won't be playing tonight. It's something that's been bothering me for three or four days and I'm going to sit this one out. When it's getting worse each day, it's not a good sign. I've missed periods of time over the last few years with groin (injuries) and I kind of know when it's time to take a step back and make sure that I'm careful. I feel like I'm at that point."
Precautionary or not, losing Sid for even a game isn't the best of things. Can't really find a replacement for a guy who's dished out 11 points in three games, but hopefully this is Malkin's cue to step it up a bit.

Indeed it does. And to think, we were 23 minutes away from 17 days. tear

damn!
I was wondering also about the clock…
what I also thought is…? with Sid sitting out, do we have 12 Forwards to play tonight? Bourque on waivers and Kunitz not ready to come back?
You have to see it for yourself...
Good question. Maybe we’ll see a call up tonight. Or maybe DB will go with 7 dmen

What’s sad is I thought of that just after I hit “post.” With all the injuries, call ups and send downs I’m really starting to lose track of who’s around

I try to keep track of it… also for WBS roster… the Penguins are playing right down to the wire this season because of the cap… so we’ll have to get used to those emergency call ups.
On a positive note, at least the game is in Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre are also at home so it won’t be some cross time-zones flight…
You have to see it for yourself...
If Bourque cleared waivers 13 minutes ago, we could call him up if we wanted, right? Although he might not be in the best mood to play for us.
Just discovered he’s not an option anyway. Washington just claimed him off waivers.

For some reason I see Bruce Boudreau smiling with opens arms as Bourque enters the Verzion Center, saying something like “You’re home son.”

Play Sid Play!
11 points in the last 3 games and his groin has been bothering him!? he needs to play in this condition more often! Well in all seriousness, that’s sucky news. Going to be difficult to take down one of the best teams in the league sans your best player. Malkin, MAF and the rest of the boys need to step it up. Hopefully Sid will be back soon and hopefully for tonight images of new big $$$ contracts will be swimming in Toews, Keith’s and Twenny Cents minds. Lazy effort by the Blackhawks would be fine by me. Still Sid or no Sid the Pens can and should beat these guys at the Igloo. Go Pens Go!
I wonder if this whole Chris Bourque thing was a conspiracy by the Capitals to steal our secrets. Maybe they told Ray Shero good things about him, and then he came here and played crappy on purpose while we were weakened by injuries and couldn’t send him down… all the while taking notes on our secret strategy for victory.
lol, i don’t think our strategy is much of a secret. Play harder than the other team, spend more time in the offensive zone then the other team, get more shots then the other team, get more goals then the other team, win the game, wash, rinse, and repeat.
I feel a big night from staal cooke and TK coming up :-D

Aw, hell...
At least others are coming back and staying back (knocks on wood), and we want him healthy for the later part of the season, and…oh, I can’t keep that crap up!
Let’s see how Geno does tonight. It would be an excellent time for him to really bring it.
Let the Caps have Bourque.
"Darling, you say Brooks Orpik 'checked' that guy. He did not 'get under him and put him into the wall'."--Beloved to me, Winter 2007
"Don't beat yourself!"--Darrell Waltrip
Sucks
But it’s probably smart. Groin injuries can linger and get worse, so it’s good he’s going to let it heal a bit.
Just imagine…he’s scored 11 points in 3 games with his groin bothering him. It could be scary to see what he does when is feeling 100%.
And who knows? Maybe this has been an issue for a while now. When Sid was slumping a lot of people speculated an injury. So maybe just as he learned how to play through it he decided it was best to not risk it.
And you’re right though. Groin injuries tend to linger for a while. Worst case scenario is evolves into a sports hernia. Those can keep a guy out for months.

Wonder if he’ll sit out against Carolina on Monday too and wait for Thursday. I think he probably should, as much as I want him to continue catching up in scoring, because I don’t think we’ll need him to win that one.
No rush. I’d really like to see him 100% for the two in three against Philly on Dec 15 and 17.

Sid has been on fire. Now its Geno’s turn. He has been skating better in the last few games, but just hasn’t found the back of the net consistently. I am calling it first. Malkin with a multiple goal effort and Feds finally lighting the lamp. The second (or is it now the first with Sid out?) line DOMINATES Chicago tonight!!
I’m curious about what the lines are going to look like. I think they’ll shift Geno into the top center spot, but I know that DB likes to keep Malkin partnered up with certain wingers too. We’ll just have to see come game time.
