Season is NOT over.

I get angry when I get messages on facebook or anywhere that I go online telling me that Penguins suck, or for that matter, "won't make the playoffs for another 5 years." Well, there was alot of criticism when Crosby went down last season but the Penguins came up strong! For some time, it looked as if they could manage WITHOUT Sid...But he is our captain, and his leadership is always needed. But now, they are facing sooo much adversity with Gonchar being out that it's unreal. I mean last year when Sid went down and Malkin and Gonch stepped up, they meshed well with all the lines and found a way around all that criticism and showed that those Penguins were not going down...But why can't they do that now? Yes, the point is currently left unanswered and dead, but so was the win-lose situation last year...I believe that this team can really work something up even with Gonchar out. I really do. But right now, these Penguins have to keep there heads up. They don't ever give up even when you think they do.
I believe the Pittsburgh Penguins are a team that never leaves and even with Gonchar out at the moment, there is still some life left in the Steel City.

Nice post! (and welcome btw)
I’m not ruling them out yet but they definitely need to hit the gas pedal soon. We need some kind of win streak, some kind of motivation to get us and the team through the next few games. San Jose won’t be easy, but a win over them can really do a lot for the confidence level. Of course there is also a little game against the Flyers on the 21st. The Pens always come out of those games fired up, win or loss.

Thank you!
Ahh, well you can never rule out the Penguins.. Just when you put your head down in sadness thinking those boys are gone, they win a massive game making you think if you forgot something. I definetly agree on the motivation, I mean one of them could even be Crosby’s faceoffs coming along! He’s really starting to pick up on those and when Zigomanis gets back, if the Pens make the playoffs, wich of course I have faith in, that will be alot of motivation…And Gonchar, as soon as he gets back, the Penguins will be fired up just to see his jersey hanging up in the dressing room… Gonch is always ready for a game, and boy does he know how to get a team fired up. Hmm, Philadelphia… Those games are always nerve-wracking even when the Pens are up 4-0 are down 4-0. :)

of 27 remaining games, 8 are against weak teams, meaning teams that are at 50 points or less so far this season, ie. the Senators, Islanders, thrashers, lightning and leafs
you have 4 games left against the Hurricanes and Panthers, the teams immediately above you in the standing, in 8th and 9th in the conference, and frankly, your competition, as you don’t have to worry about the Leafs making a run from behind. Hurricanes have a game in hand on you, the Panthers have three….that’s partially offset by the fact that the Pens still play the Panthers three times between now and the end of the season.
There are three what I as an outsider think of as rivalry games, 1 against the rangers, 2 against the flyers.
Looking at the schedule (via schedule link at top bar), I say, if you’re within striking distance (3-4 points of 8th place) on St. Patrick’s day morning, you’re going to get into the playoffs.
I base that on closing schedules for the Pens, Hurricanes and Panthers. While the Panthers have an easier finishing stretch than Carolina, you guys have the luxury of a final 5 game stretch against the Hurricanes and Panthers (and if the Pens can’t take care of business there, they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs), the Lightning and the Islanders (and if the Pens can’t take care of business there, they REALLY don’t deserve the playoffs) and the Canadiens, who will long have locked up a playoff berth, and will be playing for positioning at best, and probably just resting their big guns for the postseason.
dunno if you saw my followup on my game thread comment about hoping there were iles and thrashers on your homestretch schedule, Frank, but like I said there, I didn’t mean that as a zinger, i want to see the Pens in the postseason….and looking at the schedules for the three teams in 8, 9 and 10th place in the eastern conference, I think the Pens will get there….

Yeah I saw your comment. No worries, I took it with a grain of salt. I mean, how can you argue with the truth? We need games like that to build some confidence. I’m hoping the Pens pick up a big win over the Sharks this Wednesday because if so it really increases their chances of starting up some kind of streak over the Leafs and Islanders. Of course they follow those games up with the Habs and Flyers, but it should be an interesting two weeks regardless.

Totally awesome!
Was so depressed after I read the total score that I actually wished that Sharks would beat their asses just to get them to their senses! Haha, I’m taking it all back, because I’m looking foreward to that Sharks game :)

Man, if losses knock sense into a team than the Pens should have had their fix of that by now ;-)

Hahaha.
What a game that will be! I’m not sure if I want the Sharks to win against Boson tonight or lose…If they lose then they’ll be completely confident and cocky that they can beat anybody else…Nabokov is a goalie to look out for…And who needs a confident goalie besides Pittsburgh right now. Lol, all we need is for San Jose either to actually, maybe, just win and feel TO cocky. Then come in Mellon and get stunned…Or, lose by like 4-5 goals (wich is quite impossible but you never know in hockey…) So then Pittsburgh can feel confident enough to go out and realize that hey, we CAN score on Nabby.

Slightly unrelated but since you guys mentioned the Flyers… are there still tickets available for the game at the Igloo in March? My buddy and I have never seen a game at the Igloo and we want to come out before it closes down.

Your best bet is unfortunately one of the online ticket brokers. They’ve sold out something like 80+ home games, so going to the box office would not be your best option.
On a side note, I once showed up to a game at Wachovia and the box office was sold out. Thankfully one of the many security guards swiped some tickets off a scalper and then offered to sell them to me for a super discounted price. Upper level, two for $20. How can you say no?

There are still tickets available.
The team keeps limited number of tickets off the market until several weeks before the game (at least for a limited number of games). That way, the season is not sold out all at once. So, I would call the box office before looking elsewhere.

Good point. I was just advising him not to make the same mistake I did in Philly…
