Thank you for being good people!

I was at the Ottawa game yesterday and I had the time of my life.  Somehow my sister and I managed to get on the videoboard and it is horrifying to see yourself on that thing!  I never expected that the Pens would have gone to 4 shootouts in a row and that I would witness one in person.

Even with the vomit of a 3rd period that ultimately led to the loss, I didn't leave the arena sad.  You may ask why?  Well it was because of what I had the pleasure of observing as the fans filed out of the arena.

Sid and Sykora are stand up people. After the game ended, Sid and Sykora were some of the last to skate off.  As they did, an ice worker fell pretty hard onto the ice while trying to get one of the nets up.  They could have just skated right into the locker room pissed that they just blew the game, but they are better than that.  Both of them turned around to help the man up and to make sure that he was okay.

I am so thankful that I support and love a team that are as kind, generous, and humble as the Pittsburgh Penguins.  I am not sure that most professional athletes would take the time to do all of the things that they do for the community and for their fans and after what I saw today they are the real deal good type of people.

In saying all of that, I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to the PENS for being fantastic athletes who give me the joy of watching them play, but more importantly for being good people that set examples for others!

Many people in my circle don't follow hockey and often ask me why I love the Penguins so much to the point that my love nears obsession.  They need to look no further than this story for an answer.

GO PENS!!!! :)

That is pretty cool of Sid and Syko. Pick up that rink worker and land in another spot like basketball or baseball and see how few players flock to his help.

Glad you enjoyed the game and thanks for sharing!

I agree with Frankie. I knew there were other reasons why being a Pens fan was better than cheering for any other professional team and here’s a prime example of that. Maybe we could put Sid-Syko and someone else on a line and call them The Medic Line…..lol

Great story and thx for sharing it with us.

Thats a wonderful story to come from the game. I’ll be the first to admit that i was a little angry with the pens through the 3rd period and overtime. But the fact that Sid and Syko would do that for someone after suffering a lost goest to prove what stand up people they are. Thanks for sharing. It went a long way to making me feel better about the outcome for the game. cheers

Thanks for all of the positive feedback. I was hoping that the story would lift spirits a little bit after the loss. I know mine weren’t so high, but when I saw those two being so kind I couldn’t help but smile.

You all deserve to be proud of the Pens. I remember the championships with Badger Bob coaching ( I am a huge Badger fan, although my high school team played against and lost to his son Mark in ‘77 for state championship) and how things got tough later in the decade. To have a stud like Mario step up and keep the franchise in town, and then to see it rise again through the last decade, with some very good drafts (how do you get both Sid and this years MVP, when some teams are terrible year after year and can’t find one player close to them???). I grew up listening to the Canadiens (only team I could get on the radio, since I hated the North Stars) but I loved the play and heart of Cam, and after that, Mario, Jagr, Francis, Bourque…up until now, such a group of players. And this is tough for me, being a lifelong Habs fan. But how can you not admire the franchise. Good luck in the playoffs, and we will be watching.
