Fights, hot chicks and a big win for the Baby Pens: Your Monday Morning Mini Link Roundup

The Penguins may only need to go 1-4-1 to get 93 points to probably ensure a playoff berth, but doesn't it feel like there's more work to be done than that? [From the Rink]

Petr Sykora's been quiet lately [Faceoff Factor]

The New York Post's Larry Brooks compared the excessive penalties on the Rangers from Saturday's game to "state sponsored terrorism" by the referees. No, really. [The Peerless Prognosticator]

Mark Eaton is the Masterton Trophy nominee for the Penguins. Not to take anything away from Eaton's solid return from injury, but he's not coming close to sniffing the finals with great stories like Steve Sullivan (NSH), Brian Pothier (WSH) and my winner, Richard Zednik (FLA). [Tribune Review]

Update: Check out this great piece from Litterbox Cats about Zednik and a couple pretty goals he's had along the way this season.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins won a huge game against their division leading rival the Hershey Bears yesterday, shutting out the high-scoring Caps affiliate 1-0 [AHL]

John Curry was great, denying the Bears on an extended 5-on-3 at the end of the game. [Penguins Insider]

Thanks to winning yesterday, the Baby Pens clinched their seventh straight trip to the Calder Cup playoffs [WBSPenguins.com]

A Caps fan anthem about Sidney Crosby (NSFW-ish work language on the song, though the link is safe) [DC Sports Bog]

An interesting look at the Penguins workout routines AFTER games [PG]

Alyonka Larionov says she isn't Alex Ovechkin's sloppy seconds (just friends), and she wants to cook with Evgeni Malkin and Ovechkin. Sorry if that sound gross [Trib]

This is kind of old but still funny: at practice last Thursday, Marc-Andre Fleury stepped out of his net when Matt Cooke was going to shoot (joking him for missing the empty net twice against Calgary) [Steel City Sports Fan]

And finally, something the world needs more of: line brawls [Puck Daddy]

Larry Brooks is an idiot. He’s never written anything at any point in his career that makes you say, “Wow, you know what, he has a point.” Before the season was even starting he was ragging on players like Zherdev and Gomez for appearing “lazy” in practice. He’s the fuel to the fire of stupidity that is Ranger fans.

Zednik is my pick for the Masterson as well. Litter Box Cats has a pretty solid post on it too.

Finally, the New York Post has bravely announced just why all the refs are in cahoots with the Penguins. Terrorism.

I knew it!

Here’s a good piece from the Fanhouse showing calls for/against teams. As you can see, the Penguins are fairly balanced.

None of your terrorist agenda, sir!

Seriously, though, it didn’t at all surprise me to see teams like the Ducks and Flyers at the bottom of the list. The Ducks are once more at the top of the fights list with 77 for the season, with the Flyers right behind at 72. The next team is Edmonton with 63, and then the list becomes a bit more even.

Just one more bit of evidence that everyone hates the Flyers. It’s nature’s balance.

Let's go Pens!

wow

The New York Post wins today’s Mainstream Media Award for Greatest Lack of All Common Sense and Perspective. Way to go!

What’s funny is I hardly know a single Rangers fan that appreciates his insight on anything.

Oh, and apparently Mark Eaton has a name change as well…

…Colton Orr early in the third for his hit against the wall that bloodied Mark Easton.

I know. It’s like he wasn’t even watching the game or something. :)

Check Out The Numbers

http://everythingpittsburgh.blogspot.com/2009/03/breaking-it-down.html

I looked at all the numbers of the top teams in the East and it turned out quite interesting. We are more aggressive than most teams and also have a great goaltender. You will be surprised.

I liked the cooking segment. It was interesting to see the daughter of one of the world’s best players from the past and the world’s best player now working together. Geno looked alot more comfortable, flirting with her and that.

John Curry is going to be awesome in the NHL someday.

If we spent as much time thinking about Ovechkin as they do about Crosby, maybe we would look like the best fans too…whatever.

I think Sykora is secretly injured somehow.

I love the Crosby Sucks song.

They should play that in the arena next time the pens come over. That might get Sid riled up a bit, but it would definitely set Cherry’s hair on fire.

I would also love to see Malkin and Ovechkin do the cooking segment. They could pull a Russian version of the shtick ESPN did with Peyton and Eli. Some friendly one-upmanship with the hotness that is Alyonka Larionov stuck in the middle. In a family friendly video.

What better way to project the image that all is well between old friends than to stage a cooking show?
