A quick look at the Penguins' minor trades and moves
You can keep up with all of the trades and waiver claims on the Open Thread (or scroll down below this post)
So far the Penguins remain quiet in the trade circuit, but there are a few minor moves worth mentioning.
For starters, the Pens sent Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defenseman Danny Richmond off to St. Louis in exchange for Andy Wozniewski. Hooks put it best, "Depth for depth." If anything Wozniewski has a bit more NHL experience, but that comes with the territory when you play for an open team like the Blues.
The Penguins also claimed Craig Adams, formerly of the Chicago Blackhawks, off waivers. Adams is a right winger who tallied 35 games (2G, 4A) with the Hawks this year. He spent a good amount of time with the Carolina Hurricanes before shipping out to Chicago. He's not a young guy at 32, but he'll likely add a little depth and experience.

Like Chris Kunitz, Craig Adams is a Stanley Cup champion, winning in 2006 with Carolina.
I like the move, Adams is a good # 12/13 forward that doesn’t have to play every night but can be reliable. Wilkes-Barre’s best forwards are mighty young or green when it comes to NHL experience, so it’s nice to have a guy like Adams just in case of injury.

who're you calling old???
being now 33 years of age, I take vague offense at the description of Adams as “not a young guy”….I suspect that’ll only get worse as more years flow under the bridge…

In hockey terms of course. Come on now buddy. You’re not old. You’re…fermented like a fine wine.

So tell us a little about Danny Richmond...
I see he’s picked up a few PIM’s in his AHL career. Is he physical, or does he just take a lot of stupid penalties?
Any offensive upside? Peoria’s offense is, uh… challenged this year. Can he help?
As for Wozniewski, I hate to tell the fans of the Baby Pens this, but he’s a waste of a roster spot. “Sucks stagnant canal water” would be as accurate a description of his play as anything else I could tell you.
Muchas gracias for any insight into Richmond.

I don’t regularly watch Wilkes-Barre so someone else may be able to offer more info or better insight…Richmond’s been hampered by an ankle injury this season and said he really didn’t turn the corner until Christmas.
When healthy, there’s no doubt he’s a great AHL point producer; two years ago he scored 10 goals and 24 assists in 57 games for Norfolk. If he’s 100% and gets some PP time he will produce at the AHL level.
He is a real fiery player that plays with a spark and crosses the line, as you can tell by his career PIM stat sheet.
At the end of the day I think Richmond’s gonna be a career AHL’er and he plays there at a very high level…It’s debateable whether he’d ever stick as a NHL top 6 defenseman though.

Oh, and since Luca Caputi's being sent to the 'Coast...
…feel free to send him to Peoria as well… :-D
I’ve always liked that kid’s game.

Caputi is being demoted because he and a few other Baby Pens (e.g. Danny Richmond) got into some trouble. Caputi is being demoted because he has actual potential – Richmond is being traded because, well, he is not Luca Caputi.
