Two hottest teams in the East met, Carolina beats Pittsburgh 3-2 in OT
Finally going back on the road the Penguins ran into the somehow equally as hot Carolina Hurricanes and came out losers 3-2 in OT.
- Both goalies came to play and were not about to let their team's out of it; Cam Ward made 33 saves on 35 shots and Marc-Andre Fleury got in front of 27 of 30 saves. Both goalies were big when it counted and they were in charge.
- Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin combined for 10 shots on goal, but both were a -2 and registered 0 points. Not good chances of victory, if you only knew that.
- Tyler Kennedy manned up for a goal and assist and as usual hustled his way around the ice. The Pens wouldn't have gotten a point in the standings if it wasn't for TK.
- For a guy who was hurt last game, Ruslan Fedotenko got 2 assists and played well.
- The Penguins only won 40% of their faceoff and no one won more than 50% of the draws. Rod "The Bod" Brind'Amour won 12 out of his 16.
So just like that the Pens get slowed down by a hot team. The dreaded Florida trip is now looming.

Brind’Amour is a beat in the faceoff circle. Can’t argue with that logic. At least any question of Fedotenko’s durability after that injury against the Devils was answered. And props to TK for putting on a good show.
Also worth noting: the one point, pity or not, guarantees a playoff berth. Congrats to the Pens for making it to the postseason for three straight seasons. Especially when you consider how dark the season looked after the All-Star break.
