Pittsburgh Penguins assistant GM Chuck Fletcher signs with Minnesota Wild
Penguins assistant GM Chuck Fletcher has opted to sign with the Minnesota Wild as the team's General Manager. This is interesting timing considering the Penguins' current playoff run but I suppose there's no sitting back and waiting on an offer like this.
A Friday announcement is pending, as reported by The Star-Tribune:
A new era for the Wild begins Friday.
According to NHL sources, the Star Tribune has learned that the Wild has agreed to terms with Pittsburgh Penguins assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher to replace Doug Risebrough, who was fired April 16.
The Wild hope that Fletcher brings some of his contract negotiating skills and eye for prospects to the table.
Congrats to Fletch for the promotion and all Minnesota Wild fans.

Update: Gotta give credit where credit is due. Hooks was already expecting a void in the front office three weeks ago.

just a heads up
minnesota give him some time. it may take years to build the wild into an entertaining team as well as a cup contender. but i think its safe to say he will be sorely missed in the burgh

Yeah, it’s a big loss but I think one that Shero knew would be coming sooner or later….Fletcher was just too talented and to much of an “it” executive prospect to wait in the wings too long.
As far as Minnesota goes, I think Fletcher will have them on track sooner than later. They have a good core and a solid defensive base.
Watch, Fletcher’s gonna bring in his boy Todd Richards to coach, they’ll take a more aggressive approach to playing (don’t think Fletch didn’t see what’s happening in PIttsburgh) and they’ll be real competitive.
It’ll be interesting to see how he does, but I’m guessing that he’s ready and will put together a playoff bound team much sooner than later.

Well with the draft coming up and the free agent period, I’d imagine they’ll want to talk to him ASAP.

if the wild can keep thier core (and thats a big if) i think it will get turned around sooner rather then later.
