"I'm a shooter, not a passer."

-Jordan Staal, answering the question as to why he shot the puck during a 2-on-1 with Matt Cooke early in the second period of Game 6 that led to the game's first goal.

I suppose all the nicks on the glass behind the goal cages are proof. Still, the kid has ratcheted his game up bigtime the last few games and is a major reason why the Pens made it to a Game 7. I also liked his quote when asked which goal was bigger: the shorty in game 4 or last night’s goal. He said, “The one next game”. Well played, sir. Well played.

I think it also had something to do with it was Matt Cooke with him…If that’s a guy like Malkin or Crosby maybe he passes.

And Ericsson’s job is to take away the pass, which he did by sliding. But he also took himself out of the play which enabled Staal the time to collect his own rebound and bury it.

Oh, I understand….it was just really funny to see him say that in what appeared to be all seriousness.

I actually laughed when he said that too. My friend is a Leafs fan and he called me up after the game asking, “Did you hear what Staal said?”

Right around January-ish we would turn our heads whenever Staal took a shot. We already knew the outcome in advance. But for as much as we joke and bash the kid, he’s been a beast throughout the playoffs.

Especially in the Cup Finals. It was really encouraging to hear how he was winded last night near the end but asked Danny B if he could go back out on the ice against Zetterberg. That’s the kind of heart that the Pens need right now.

reporter: “Why didn’t you pass the puck on the two on one?”
