Mario Lemieux knows best...
Great nugget by Darren Dreger at TSN:
Pittsburgh Penguins co-owner Mario Lemieux spent time with the coaching staff and head coach Dan Bylsma on Monday, working on the white board to illustrate some diagrams.
I asked Bylsma about it afterwards and he said it's somewhat unique and a little bit unusual, but one Penguins player also told me that Lemieux went into the dressing room after a game in Washington during that series to talk to the players about the power plays.

HE BURIES IT!
He’s taking this over he’s had enough already…he’s probably down there smacking people around right now! I think we defend the Mellon tonight, but we still gotta go back to the house of horrors, the Joe…so i dunno…
When Mario dropped the puck at Mellon last week I thought it would be awesome if he stood behind the bench for that game. I know it’s out of character and, in a way, it may put Bylsma in an awkward position but I think just his presence alone would be enough to spark the team. I’m not suggesting he take over coaching duties or anything. I just think a guy skating to the bench after a long shift recovers a bit faster when he sees Le Magnifique standing behind him.

When that possibility was mentioned last week, I cringed a bit, because as inspirational as Mario might be, he’s not the leader of this team; if any players were to ask his opinion at that point, that’s undermining Bylsma’s authority, and maybe introducing a wildcard into the gameplan.
Same thing goes for his descent into the locker room to offer advice now, and go over a few power play tricks, I really hope he’s doing that with the consent of Bylsma, and not just being an owner who thinks he’s gotta be the savior because he has a couple of rings, and happens to sign the checks, too….
this isn't jerry jones (owner for the nfl's cowboys) we're talking about here

maybe it’s cuz he probably has a great mind for hockey as well?
i agree it’d be best if he had a chat with bylsma before this, but i’m betting he did
It doesn’t sound like Mario was drawing up new plays, or changing the offense. Most likely he saw something the team could exploit, he was incredible at finding weaknesses as a player. He sees what only a few see, if he needs to go personally pass it on, let him.
Sure he can score goals, but can he cook?
there is a reason why he is rated as one of the top owners in the nhl

I heard they were sent a video before game three that was a pep-talk from Mike Tomlin.
If that helped, what bad could a visit from Mario cause? I think there’s a lot of mutual respect between player/coach/ownership within the Penguins organization, and NHL Hockey in general more than in other pro sports. Mario would not have done it without speaking with Bylsma beforehand. It might even have been Bylsma’s or one of his staff’s idea. If he was asked, he’d do it graciously, no doubt.

Is there any doubt if Mario announced right now he was going to come back and lace ’em up for game 6 tonight he would notch a goal and an assist?
Just wanted to stop over and say Good luck tonight.
I am not rooting for the Pens (then again, as a Flyers fan, would you expect me to?) but it has been an interesting series with some good debates and impressive play. As a fan whose team is no longer playing, I can’t ask for much more.
Looking forward to reviving the rivalry next season and maybe switch up who wins while we’re at it ;)
Have a good one guys (and gals of course) . . .
