HAHA Hossa

Hahah wow. I would HATE to be this guy right now. His whole decline starts when he's a star player on a great Penguins team that unfortunately lost to the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup finals last season. Instead of realizing that his Penguins have no where to go but up because of all their young talent, he opts to join their rival the Red Wings, assuming he has a better chance to win the Stanley Cup with them. His disloyal plan works nicely throughout the season and playoffs until they reach the Stanley Cup finals versus, guess who, his old Penguins squad. I'm sure Hossa, being the douche he is, thought he still had the advantage to win Lord Stanley's Cup but in the end, his old Pittsburgh team won it in 7 games and he had to watch Crosby hoist the Cup instead of the other way around. If there were ever a more perfect time for The Simpsons character Nelson to say "HA-HA", it would have been then.

Now on to my point. Hossa, being the ulti-douche he is, I guess had had enough losing and decided to leave yet another championship-caliber team. This time he opted to join the [still playoff-worthy] Blackhawks in a whopping 12 YEAR deal. When I first read this I thought, "What an ass, but hey the Blackhawks were pretty good with Khabibulin and all maybe the addition of Hossa will help finally get them/him a championship". Boy was I wrong. That same day (today), Nikolai Khabibulin left his former Blackhawks and signed a 4 year deal with the Edmonton Oilers. HAH!!! God I would absolutely despise my life if I was Hossa! He signs a 12 year deal with a team that had a great core and an unbeleiveable goalie in Khabibulin, just to have him leave before he even gets there! I pretty much laughed out loud at work after I read all that news. Serves you right Hossa I hope you never get your championship. You should have stayed with the Penguins.

This is why they used to behead people for dishonesty and treason back in the middle ages. Because look where it gets you...NOWHERE!! And now you're stuck in one of THE most annoying sports cities in the world: Chicago. I shudder thinking about all those annoying Chicagoan fans with their annoying accents and the annoying way they think their teams are good even though none of them have won a championship in ages. JUSTICE. IS. SERVED.

One thing I was happy about was him playing 150+ minutes in the series against the Pens and only coming away with 3 assists. I don’t see how signing Hossa for 12 years makes sense for either side. We’ll see how Hossa feels about it 7 years from now when he’s 37 and wants to retire but has to play 5 more years.

Hossa

first off congrats on the title run pittsburg is the only team in the finals obviously that gave us a challenge and its good to see a great finals which i did, wings fans and pens fans have something in common we both really have somebody that can hear the boobirds what a chump. i see why nobody in pittsburg likes him, loses with a team in the finals and than bounces what a moron hossa is a fly that needs to be swatted

Appreciate the sentiments wingnut... but...

the hawks had better make sure there was no opt-out clause in that 12 year contract for ‘mr. one-run-and-done hossa.’

that said, to me justice was served the second craig adams jumped on the puck and the horn sounded the end of game 7. ah, it still makes me smile. how sweet.

I follow the Hawks closely in the West. I more or less adopted them over the past three years. But now I just feel like I have to start hatin based on association. I can’t cheer for Chicago to go all the way because I don’t want to see Hossa get anything.

Amen. Chicago was a team I semi-liked in the west based on youth, main reason why I love the Penguins. Now that they have Hossa, they can forget about me cheering for them ever again. The year after Hossa retires, Blackhawks win Lord Stanley, I’m betting money on it now.

Hossa was a Playoff rental who did the Pens a favor by not signing with them. Laugh at him all you want, but if he did accept the Pens offer, your cap situation would be screwed.

ya everyone just forgets the fact that if we signed him we may have not re-signed some people, like Orpik or gave Staal his contract, or signed kunitz and Guerin. I say good riddance and we’re better off without him.

I’m a pens fan, and I have no hard feelings towards Hossa. If I was in his situation, I might have made the same choice. The wings dominated the pens that year, and they were mostly intact for last year, whereas the pens lost a ton of players to free agency.

I don’t feel bad for him, and it is kinda funny how things worked out, but the Blackhawks have a decent team and he might win a cup eventually after all.

Good Luck Maid Marian

A couple of posters have it right. Hossa did the Pens a favor not tying up a large chunk of money for 5+ years. He’s a good player but a proven playoff flop. His one notable exception was the ’08 run with the Penguins. As it worked out the Pens got some more depth and good chemistry and beat essentially the same Wings team plus Hossa that had thumped Pitt the year earlier. It worked out well. As for sticking in Detroit the deal they offered him was 1/2 ass. Chicago has a good team and can certainly contend for a Cup. Having said all this would I love to see the Pens smoke Chicago in the Finals….ABSOLUTELY!

I for one would love a guaranteed paycheck of 5.5M every year for 12 years…

Troll Alert: Hawks fan

My first thought was horror that the Hawks had signed him. There was no one on our site that got slagged worse than him and we took double delight in both seeing the Wings lose and seeing him not getting a cup after acting like a biatch. That said, he’s our biatch now and I’m starting to get optimistic. Everyone needs a chance for a fresh start and I hope this is his. Curse or not, I think our team just got better with him coming here; besides, we are used to curses- look at the flubs. As for Khabbi going, it had to be done. He could stand on his head and also let in the softest goals imaginable in the same game. With the money committed to Huet, there just wasn’t any way we could keep Khabbi around unless it was a one year deal.

question

im not a hawks fan and only saw them really play in the playoffs so i didnt know khabi was THAT past his prime. i wonder how he still managed a 4 year deal? and do you think is huet good/experienced enough to guide them to the playoffs? like i said im not really a big hawks fan im actually from the san francisco bay area so im a sharks fan….and yes i appreciate your sympathy hahah but my second favorite team has always been the pens so i was ecstatic when they won lord stanley’s cup this year. congrats to all you true pens fans that actually live in pittsburgh lol that must have been crazy

CIT_OF_CHAMPS

If he can’t win the cup with the hawks in 12 years, then he is bad luck. Actually, I think he is a bad luck charm. This year’s finals will be the Ducks and the Pens. He will not finish out the 12 year contract due to constantly disappearing in the playoffs. He is the Hawks problem now.

Take it easy on the Chi

Hossa definitely proved he had no class when he gave up on the Pens in favor of the Wings. Luckily the Pens came out on top and won it all without the bum. I am from Chicago and a die-hard Pens fan, always have been, always will be. Am currently living in Bangkok and watched the entire Penguins playoff run via ustream. In 1992 I went to game 4 of the Finals in Chicago when Pittsburgh won 7-6 and Mario and Co. repeated and it was great. Yep, Hawk fans are insane and they were throwing beer and peanuts and whining because the better team won. Everyone has their opinion on sports towns, but Chicago has all the major sports franchises with excellent stadiums and strong fan support, even if our teams don’t win. Don’t forget MJ and the 6 rings and the Sox won a pennant this century(Cubs fan here but has respect for the other guys, too). Not too many other cities in Chicago’s league. The great thing about being in America or North America is that we have the greatest pro sports, period. Go Pens!

Next Year

I like the Blackhawks, first off. I think they have great talent and are similar to our Pens, maybe just a couple years behind us in developing their talent. What I look forward to the most, is in the next couple of years, the Pens beating the Hawks in the finals and watching Hossa drop his head in shame yet again.

i think next year it will be hawks and either pens or caps in the finals

Caps?

Caps need to fix their blue line pretty badly. And it remains to be seen how well Varlamov will perform in his sophomore year.

OTOH, I think Boston’s Meltdown against Carolina was the kick in the rear they needed. I think they are more serious competition.
