Columbus Blue Jackets sign former Penguins goalie Mathieu Garon
Two years, $1.2 million per season for Mathie Garon. Much more then he would have gotten to stay in Pittsburgh. Garon was acquired in January 2009 for backup goalie Dany Sabourin, Ryan Stone and a 4th round pick. Garon only appearance with Pittsburgh in the regular season and one game in the playoffs in the Stanley Cup finals, so he gets his name on the Cup.
Best of luck to Garon, who is just two seasons removed from winning 26 NHL games.

You gotta write the “Scuds resigns with Pens” article now, and have it all queued up when the story breaks. If you write it, it will come…

That’s a great photo.
That caption really needs to be: ’Garon’s reaction to being told he was starting a game’
“Moi?”
I’ll never forget your stops on that 5 on 3 when it was 5-0 in Game 5, Matt. Good luck in Columbus, big guy.

I like this move for the Jackets more now than I did at first. I won’t bother asking your guys’ opinions since it appears you didn’t get to see much of him on the ice. ;)

….and the Habs continue their spending spree as they sign Gionta to a 5 yr deal for 25m. Might have to start calling the Habs ‘Rangers North’.

where the hell are the Habs getting the money for these players? Apparently they’re kicking Kovelev to the curb

Kovalev, Lang, Koivu, Komisarek…all goners. So, the Habs had money to spend today, and spend they did. Wisely? No.

Yep, they are the Rangers North today. Gionta, Camallieri, Gomez, Spacek, Gill, etc etc etc. Unbelievable. They’re really going to be mad up there when they see how much that team sucks.

um, yeah
Good luck with that, Rangers. You’re locked into paying this guy 7.5M for the next five years. How many games has Gaborik played over the past 2 or 3 seasons?

Oh, wow…TSN orginally had this trade at 5 yr, 28.5m…it is actually 7.5m, you’re right. I didn’t think it was so tremendously awful @ 28.5….still dubious at best…but 37.5…seriously, NYR? Did you not learn your lesson with Gomez, Drury, Redden, Rozsival, etc etc etc…it just blows my mind. Have teams not noticed the symbiotic relationship between massive free-agent signings and craptastic production?

As it turns out it was good the Pens got thrashed in G5, allowed Garon to get in a Finals Game and get his name on the Cup! Good Luck in Columbus Matty. He’s a good GT.

Even if he didn’t actually play in the game, he was dressed for the game so that counts as an appearance so even without Game 5 he was going to get his name on the Cup.

So does this mean, without a doubt, that Curry is now the number 2? If so do the Pens use him 25 games a year or is Fluery about to become the next Brodouer? By that I mean he plays 75 games a regular season, assuming he can stay healthy.
