Any chance one or two of these gritty forwards...
Could be considered for a switch to defense? Seems odd that the team is losing D and adding 3rd or 4th line forwards. Who would you think might be a candidate to make such a switch? Adams? Rupp? Rupp seems to be an extremely odd player to sign. If the lines are intact, where would he play? Is he a good faceoff guy? Goodness knows the Pens could use one since they are letting Zigomanis walk.

I think both these guys are on the roster with the idea they are defensive Offenseman. I suspect the Pens intend to give some of their WBS youngsters a shot at positions 6 and 7 in the D line, they may sign a quality D-Man from Free Agency, but the M.O in Pittsburgh has been play the bulk of the season then make the Cup running moves around the trade deadline.

lines
i see it this way
line 1: kunitz sid geurin
line 2: feds geno talbot( when he returns from a unknown shoulder surgery?)
line 3: cooke stall T.K.
line 4: dupuis adams rupp/goddard
D 1: orpik gonch
d 2: eaton tanger
d 3: lovejoy goski
Now if dupuis and goddard are traded, you bring up a young guy for some spark for rupp and adams to have him dump and chase with and then you got some gritty bangers to get the dirty work done, some one like caputti or even maybe farther down the road tangardi but i think hes a long shot and should stay down to develop him into becoming a top 6 forward for sid or geno

-Make up of the lines 1-4-
Your forwards mock-up looks pretty good, (meaning I’d pretty much do the same), the only things I
would probably differ from you are, Forwards I have Sykora and Cooke on line 2, where as you have Feds and Talbot. So depending on the deal with Sykora, and Talbot (when able to play, #25)
to me, Cooke, Malkin, and Sykora played well together, you can throw Cooke’s preformance in that mix also. They had reached the point this past year where they were anticipating each other, gaining quality chances, and not allowing much against them, (until Sykoras “injury”, and following slump) I think Bylsma has seen this, and will reasses to see if the cohesion is still there early in the season. I do like that line to though with Geno’s superstar skill, Sykie’s twisted wristers, and Cooke’s ability to get to the open space, which that’s one of the more important qualities that has to be taken advantage of as much as possible, opposing D’s have to focus more often, and guard with more D players on Geno, after him they have to keep tabs on P.S., so Cooke is free to help, on the boards, and “float” to that open space, like a good Wide Receiver against a zone defense, find the soft spot, and make ‘em pay. This line I think has the potential to nail the back of the net, pretty damn often, Cooke if playing on this line for the year really could end up with around 25 goals. Compounding that with 25-30 for Sykora, and geesh, 40 or so with Geno, WOW! But like I said and you probably know, all of this is hinging on Sykee return, and health, keeping Cooke there and Talbot’s recovery time.(Maxime is also a center, so they may keep him on that #4 line)
On the third line, C is obvious, Kennedy is a lock I think also, Feds is the wild card here. I think the biggest issue that will keep him on that 3rd line is the “meshing” between Feds and Stall, if they start well and show that gelling, I don’t see Coach B, messing with something that works, which he wouldnt do to any group on the team that is working.
Where Dupuis ends up is the question for #4, well Adams play also, he seems like a streaky player, I don’t know his past stats, and who he has been combo’d with, just the way he came off to me this year, he may not be, but if he is, his spot I believe will not be a “set-in-stone” deal, we learned what one of those players can affect themselves, and their line mates-(Satan’s play)
1)- Guerin-Crosby-Kunitz line 1: kunitz sid geurin
2)- Cooke-Malkin-Sykora line 2: feds geno talbolt
3)- Fedotenko-Staal-Kennedy line 3: cooke stall T.K.
4)- Dupuis-Talbot-Adams line 4: dupuis adams rupp/goddard
On your defense mock-up
Defense pairings
Orpik—————-Gonchar D. 1: orpik gonch
LeTang————Eaton** D. 2: eaton tanger
Golgoski———Mckee D. 3: lovejoy goski
*Lovejoy
Well we’re both right there, I just don’t see (Mckee wasn’t ours when you put your list together)
I just don’t see a newbie paired with Golagoski, if anything if your list was to go on I see (they may do this anyways) them trying to split Orpik, and Gonch up. I don’t know how I’d be if that was the deal. WE all know, and so do teams around the league, Orpik is the D, no matter who’s he is paired with, and Gonchar is a so-so defender, I mean he does do well, but is more of a risk in own zone, as far as physciality, we know in the O -zone what he has been, is , and will be in relation to being a O type defender, or a D type. Definatly an O guy, but with Mckee being added gives us more freedom in the pairings.
PP lines and D-pairings
PP1- Geno—Sid—Sykora/Guerin
D1- Gonchar—-Letang
PP2-Kennedy—Stall—Talbot/Dupuis/Feds** D2-(?)
The players on the 2nd PP——D, well pretty much, barring injury or other unforseen situations, Stall is the only lock, and maybe T.K. (he might just have a leg up)
Well what’cha think on mine, really alot is up in the air for the lines, and D pairings, just like half of last year, can go either way, depending on play, injuries, other players aquired, and overall team cohesion, will dictate the team.
Anyone heard of what is going on with Colby Armstrong in ATL I know he some type of F/A this year, I’d personally like to see him back here where he belongs. I just don’t know if he was UnRestricted, Restricted, or if having to compensate for him, and what that is…

Grit
The Pens need to add some grit to their roster. Crosby and Malkin got roughed up pretty good during the playoffs and adding a guy like Rupp and whom ever else Shero can find will help in the run. I know the cap is a problem because there were some guys out there to be had. I also think they will pair any newbies with one of the regulars…Eaton, Letang
