Pens sign Jay McKee

As per The Insider on PIttsburgh Sports and Hockeybuzz. http://insidepittsburghsports.com/

Money is unreported as of yet, but apparently he took less to play for the Penguins, and that's why they stopped pursuing Nick Boynton. Expected to be announced Friday.

I really have nothing else to add, as you can just click the link for Depaoli's usually semi accurate info, but I need it to reach seventy five words. Now it is.

I have been a HUGE Pens fan (as well as a Blues fan from growing up in St Louis) since I saw Mario play as a kid.

So seeing Jay leave St Louis to open a roster spot for a key rookie was a good thing..saved them money. Seeing Jay sign in Pittsburgh makes me very happy.

Jay won’t be flashy. He won’t be fast. But he will block every shot around him with any body part possible. He is a stable guy to work the corners and is usually very safe with the puck.

Jay at $4mil was way too much. But ay at less than a mll is a HUGE steal. Pens fans should be very happy. Jay has been paired with Erik Johnson and Roman Polak as they were coming up early in their rookie seasons. He did a great job of giving them a comfort zone to grow and make mistakes. Gogo is going to benefit )hopefully) from the same type of set up.

Boyton is already signed with the Ducks who I feel will be in the cup finals this year due to the great roster they have created pretty much over night. I like the McKee deal. I don’t like how often he is injured. I think the Pens should resign Philippe Boucher at the minimum salary and use him as the 7th D in case of injury, which you will have sooner or later with McKee.

The finger injury was rather freakish this year. Blocking a shot and nearly slicing one finger tip off.

You’ll have to worry about him as much as any other Veteran.
