Wednesday linkage: Chris Kunitz celebrates, Nikolai Zherdev to KHL, Wings bound for Finals again?
- Chris Kunitz brought the Cup home to Regina and charged a charitable fee for a pic and autograph. The event raised almost $4,000 for a local cancer center. [Leader Post]
- 30 Days of Mario - Day Six. Mario scores four goals against the Red Wings. [Faceoff Factor]
- The NHL's 30 in 30 focuses on the Red Wings and how the Cup core is still intact. Yeah, that's true, but the same can be said of the younger Penguins squad. [NHL.com]
- Reports suggest Nikolai Zherdev is heading off to the KHL. The Rangers passed on him after this season, something that didn't really come as any surprise. He didn't exactly play lights out for the Rangers last season, picking up only 23G and 35A. Maybe that was doable in Columbus, where he scored 61pts the year prior, but that apparantly doesn't fly with Tortorella. In other words, I doubt anyone in NY cares. [CBC]
- Speaking of NY, the Times suggests Twitter can at times be the embodiment of poor information (evil?) in the hockey world. [Slap Shot]
- Oh look, we almost didn't mention Patrick Kane. Come on, you gotta have fun with it. Gorgalor did. [Last post]

Need a photoshop of this
From the sidebar of the twitter is evil link,
James M. Kane told them that in detaining Patrick they were "arresting the face of Buffalo."
Gorgalor, ya got a minute to pin twenny’s (hey, if 50 cent is “fitty”) mug onto a shaggy, plains roaming creature?

haha As many have learned in the past, edging Gorgalor on often ends in hilarity.

Hah! I don’t even know where to start with this one. The last time I photoshopped a buffalo like beast, this happened:

I suppose I could put Kane in there instead of Malkin, and add a taxi sign on the beast. Or, I could photoshop Kane vs. Cabbie on a joust-like American Gladiators platform made of nickels. This could be my starting image:

Oh photoshop, how I love thee.

Now the American Gladiators thing sounds pretty genius. Difficult. But genius

Oh, why oh why would the Times say anything bad about Twitter, I wonder?
None of the Rangers fans at my work are crying over Zherdev, put it that way.
I don’t think a Pens/Wings threepeat is outside the realm of possibility at all, and the NHL.com article confirmed that. If it starts to look like it’ll happen again in 2010, we’re going to be smart and book marriage counseling sessions during the quarterfinals.
Oh, and Ahtrap? I have an important question for you—which end of the buffalo?

I can’t imagine how many hockey fans would hate that idea. If two in a row was bad for them, three will be unbearable.
Zherdev did some damage against the Pens during the regular season. He’s not “bad” by any means, but all I read and heard about him was negative. That’s the NY press for ya.

To hell with them hating a threepeat. I’m a Pirates fan, I have paid my dues watching Pittsburgh sports. It’s simply the universe balancing out sucktitide with awesomeness.
I’m with PensFan—who cares what other fans think? At this point last year, I was listening to Wings fans gloat and despairing because Tony Stewart hadn’t won a race. Things even out.
I think Zherdev is better than his press last year, but NYC is very tough on its athletes. I really don’t care for the sports culture here.
Read the Kunitz article, incidentally. It’s nice that he got a celebration all to himself this time.
