Saturday linkage: Foundation set on arena, Hal Gill has day with Stanley, Daniel Briere wants a strong return
- The Consol Energy Center's skeleton is complete. Some interesting stats - 7,000 tons of steel so far. What to expect: 18,087 seats (87, huh?). $355 million in total expense is projected, with an annual team hit of $4.1 mill (although $7 mill is coming from a state fund). And they're not even done yet... [Tribune-Review]
- Hal Gill had his day with the Cup. He and his ridiculous blonde hair showed up in Massachusetts for a day with kids from a local home for at-risk children and families. [Boston Herald]
- Daniel Briere is looking to prove his worth to all of Philly. In a town with Ray Emery and now Michael Vick, why do I have a weird feeling he'll be the scapegoat? [Philly.com]
- The NHL's "other" bankruptcy case. [From the Rink]
- Can you still remain loyal to your team even if you no longer live in the area? Can you comfortably root for another team without feeling guilt? [DC Cheap Seats]

Gotta love “on time,” even if the Consol Energy Center can’t also be “under budget.”
It sure was nice of Hal Gill to make sure those underprivileged kids could enjoy a well-deserved laugh. Whoever advised him to do that to his hair is not his friend.
The Briere article gave me a good laugh.
The last piece is interesting to me simply because it seems important to others but is not something I ever thought about much. I don’t have much geographic loyalty. When it comes to what I term “those boring ball sports,” I always want Florida teams to do well, but I don’t watch. There aren’t many Floridian drivers in NASCAR, but I do love the Daytona International Speedway best out of all the tracks and always will.
Thing is, if I went hometown for hockey, I’d be a Tampa Bay Lightning fan (the closest thing to an Orlando or Daytona Beach team), or if I went with my adopted town, I’d be a Rangers or Islanders fan. Seriously, that’s no way to live! As I’ve said before, I went with the team that got and kept my attention. No regrets.
"Darling, you say Brooks Orpik 'checked' that guy. He did not 'get under him and put him into the wall'."--Beloved to me, Winter 2007
When I was up in Montreal for the draft I didn’t really notice anyone walking around with blonde hair. I have no idea where he got that idea from but it’s worth a laugh either way.
Geographically I guess I’d be a Devils fan. I only hate them when they win, if that stands for anything.

Wallace?
Why doesn’t anyone consider Tim Wallace as a possible contributor in the NHL? Is he that much of a scrub? I thought in the few games he played up that he exceeded expectations (although expectations weren’t as high for him as caputi and pesonen, and those guys) but he played with the guts and energy that Talbot is known for. Or does he have Matt Cooke hands and I’m just way off?
I liked what Wallace brought to the ice as well. Cooke is likely out of town after this season so perhaps Wallace makes the full-time job by then?
