Sunday Linkage: Coyotes owe players money, Mike Zigomanis to return?
- In case you missed it, the Pens re-signed John Curry yesterday.
- The Phoenix Coyotes are in pretty bad shape. In fact they still have signing bonuses and performance bonuses they have to pay off. The list may be void of big NHL names, but it's still a disheartening sight to see. [From the Rink]
- Faceoff Factor interviews Penguins prospect Joey Haddad [Faceoff Factor]
- Greg Wysh at Puck Daddy tells us no one is playing roller hockey anymore. I know Hooks is a beast in certain roller hockey circles, and I myself have played out a bit around my area. But to think the sport declined nearly 15% last season just hurts. Anyone know if it's balanced out by a raise in ice hockey equipment? [Puck Daddy]
- Some investigative work by the crew over at Faceoff Factor may have more or less broken the re-signing of Mike Zigomanis. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few hours or so to see if the faceoff specialist is back on board for one more year. [Faceoff Factor]

Have to wonder what the Reinsdorf group sees in attempting to bid for the Coyotes. At least with Balsillie, the motive is obvious, and he’s upfront about his intentions.

I thought the same thing. There’s definitely a hidden motive there.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
It looks like the Zigomantis interest is based on some pretty dubious sleuthing. There was a reference to the NHLPA website having Zigs with the Pens next year earning the same salary that he pulled down last year with the Pens. A little investigation yields that the NHLPA website is not really up to date, and just carries over the salary/contract until a new deal is signed by a free agent. Also, the other bit of evidence was that the Penguins official site had Zigomantis back on their roster. I’m putting this rumor’s veracity at Petr Sykora Interview level at this time.

Zigomanis signing?
I also noted that Zigomanis’ name was nowhere to be found on Yahoo’s Penguins team page (not in roster, depth chart, notes). One site I find to be very useful, up-to-date and accurate is nhlnumbers.com.
They still list Zigomanis as a UFA. At first I thought that it might not be up to date but they have Brookbank and Curry as signed players and as a double-check, McCormick (Buffalo) and Jurcina (Washington) who were signed in the past 2 days, have been updated as signed players on the site.
It would be nice to have Ziggy back. A faceoff specialist is always good to have around.
