Lazy Sunday: Top 10 Penguins goals of all time. Plus, did you land tickets yesterday?
Happy Sunday. Preseason kicks off on Tuesday.
- News worth sharing: Dany Heatley out of Ottawa and home in San Jose. The crybaby was traded for Jonathan Cheechoo, Milan Michalek and a second round pick in next year's draft. [Silver Seven Sens]
But enough of that. Who really cares about Heatley anyway? I'm just happy he will (hopefully) shut up now.
Today I'm looking to hear some stories from you guys about trying to land tickets yesterday morning. Success? Failure? Curious to hear how it all went down. In a perfect world we'd all have tickets, but when you're a fan of the returning Stanley Cup champs they definitely don't come easy.

tickets
On a whim, I started poking around for tickets at around 11am yesterday morning. Didn’t really care who we were playing – just wanted to get myself in the door for one game this season. Took about a half hour of clicking random dates, but I found two E-level seats for the Mar. 2 Buffalo game. I’m pretty dang excited.
We got tickets!
Lori and I set our alarms and got up for the 10 a.m. start of sales (9 a.m. for me). We wanted tickets to the March 6th and March 7th games so that we could spend a weekend in Pittsburgh and see both games. I worked on buying tickets for the 6th and she worked on the 7th — we reloaded ticketmaster starting at 9:59 so that we could get tickets the second they were available. We got seats in the C-level for both games.
Oh boy.
I live in oregon, and the pens are coming up to vancouver jan. 16th. I logged on to ticketmaster at noon when they were to go on sale, only to have to search over and over again trying to find ANY available tix at a PREMIUM price (it’s that stanley cup title thing).
so after 45min of coming up with nothing, i wandered over to stubhub.com to see what was up for grabs. i was prepared to spend $200 a ticket, knowing the pens don’t come up to vancouver that often. to my surprise a seller on stubhub had a pair of tix in the 3rd row, at the corner of the ice, to the right of the goalie, in the end the pens will be shotting at twice! only drawback? the seller wanted $279.50 apiece. so after careful deliberation, i decided what the hell, and forked out the dough. so after a service fee, and a shipping fee (international fedex, damn canada!) it cost me a lovely $634.85. Oy. Now i gotta get a passport! But at least i got tix!
The same thing happened to us last year — I live in Chicago and the Penguins came here once last year. We logged on right when Blackhawks tickets first became available and there were no seats at all — we could only find standing room only. This at the beginning of the year before their excellent season so tickets were still cheap and easy to find for most games — but when the Penguins come to town, forget it. I bought them on stubhub for $50 each (marked up from $15 each), which was a deal compared to the current price of Penguins tickets anywhere.
When we went to the game it was like 35% Penguins fans — there are so many Pittsburgh fans all over the country that when the Pens only come to town once, it’s very hard to get tickets because we all want to go to that one game.
Whenever the Pens come to town, whatever town they’re coming to, the price always goes up. The Devils, Rangers and Flyers raise their prices. The Dallas Stars are even starting a system this season where they plan to adjust ticket prices based on what team is coming to town and how good they’re performing. It’s safe to say that even if this Pens roster comes to town with a “losing” record, those prices will still be through the roof just because people want to see Malkin/Staal/Crosby/Fleury etc

No tickets...yet.
Like I said in yesterday’s post, I just can’t afford it right now. I might still go after something late in the season, possibly one of the March or April home games.
Before each game, please remember to feed the bats.
tickets
I am going to be back in da Burgh in December from Anchorage, AK, for the 1st time in 9 years. I had my sister try to score tix for Colorado/Chicago/Carolina. No dice on Chicago, although I did see later I could get an individual ticket. We got 3 good ones for Colorado and are still looking into the others. It will be my last game in the Igloo. Started going in the late 70s. CAN’T WAIT but will be bittersweet. I am going to all 3 no matter what I have to do!!!
Tickets of course
Being the last season at the Mellon I was pretty specific about where I wanted to sit, we had the whole 2 PC and phone line thing going for 10 (8 our time) and of course when we got 2 sets of tickets we wanted the sodding thing froze and we lost 1 set. Between Stubhub & Ticketmaster we now have 2 games in F, 1 in A & 1 in B.
We’ll attempt the same for Calgary when the tickets go on sale so we can see them here. I’m looking forward to the heckling already……
I’m afraid I jumped the gun a bit and ran to post here as soon as I stopped squealing and pumping my fist, I was so excited!
One game in A, one game in B. I felt my face go white at the cost, especially since I was putting this on my credit rather than my debit. The woman at Ticketmaster laughed when I exclaimed, “Do it! Before I can change my mind! Please!” But here, I am reminded that the experience will be soooo worth it. Seeing the Pens and the Mellon Arena come to life before me, instead of just being something I watch on TV!
Also, friends of ours will be going to the Islanders season opener, and we’re going with them. I just realized it’s less than a month away and tingled a little.
