Lineup for TONIGHT'S game against Columbus
The Pittsburgh Penguins take to the ice tonight for the first time since they skated off with Lord Stanley. It's time to play hockey already.
Behind the jump we'll take a look at the expected lineups for Pittsburgh and Columbus tonight.
All info from the outstanding Jonathan Bombulie's twitter.
Pittsburgh
Kunitz-Crosby-Tangradi
Dupuis-Staal-Fedotenko
Conner-Jeffrey-Bayda
Sill-Vitale-Godard
Despres/Gonchar
Eaton/Engelland
McKee/Bortuzzo
Fleury
Thiessen
Columbus' expected forwards:
Blunden, Boll, Brassard, Dorsett, Filatov, Murray, Sestito, Mayorov, Umberger, Vermette, Voracek
Defense: Clitsome, Lynch, Methot, Moore, Roy, Russel
Goalies: LaCosta and Garon
--Big chance for one Eric Tangradi. He hasn't skated with Sidney Crosby much in practice but no doubt this is the best type of audition one could hope for.
--A lot of faith in the play of young Simon Despres and Robert Bortuzzo as well. I think the Pens are interested to see what they've got in both defensemen.
--Eric Godard's back in the bodyguard role, thankfully-- expect Jared Boll and/or former Penguin property Tim Sestito to look to drop the gloves at some point.
--The whole 3rd line is in the mix for the big group of players all competiting for that 12th or 13th roster spot, it'll be worth watching to see if any of them standout.
--Joe Vitale and Zach Sill also with a big opportunity to get in the first game, both have generated a positive buzz in the early stages of camp, let's see what happens in game situations.
--Ruslan Fedotenko takes the spot Matt Cooke has been practicing on, I think Dan Byslma is playing a lot of different combinations to breed fimiliarity amongst his forwards. Ever since he took ever the lines have been pretty standardized so it'll be interesting to see how he pulls at the strings getting combinations like this out there.
--Columbus is bringing a fairly unestablished lineup, no Rick Nash or Steve Mason but with Nikita Filatov, Antone Vermette and Derek Brassard they're still gonna have some NHL quality skill out there.
--How many times will it be mentioned RJ Umberger is playing in his hometown in the media reports?

Woooo let’s just stay healthy this preseason.
I like how they’re testing out Tangradi on the first line already. It may not translate the same way if he makes the team, but at least we can get an idea of how he works with Sid.

I was thinking about it: Bill Guerin has nothing to prove in pre-season so no point in risking injury to the old man. The last thing anyone wants is another September injury like Gonchar suffered last season.
Better to let the young bucks get out there and see how ready they are to play with a supreme talent like #87 and #71.

Me thinks Caputti finds his way onto the Malkin line next game. Being a Pirates fan you learn to really enjoy watching your prospects.
Caputi was on Malkin’s line in today’s scrimmage, so I think you may be correct.

They’re also working kennedy with Malkin and Feds. That has some potential there. Kennedy may very well be a sleeper pick for a lot of fantasy teams this year. 25 – 30 goals on a line like that? Yay or nay?

Hockey already?
wow, sneaky…or maybe it just that I’m coming at it from an opposite perspective from you, still in the cup losing hangover period…maybe I’d better get on the ball and look stuff up, so as to not totally embarrass myself in the fantasy league

It’s ok, you can draft Miro Satan if you’d like. We won’t stop you.
